Generating and Consuming Geospatial Linked Data - UNED 2013

The team created a solution to promote farms that sell directly to customers by mapping their locations and details. They developed an application and map displaying farm information sourced from an online spreadsheet. Partners from several countries contributed farm data. The goal was to help small farmers and shorten supply chains using open data standards. They plan to continue expanding the dataset and enhancing the application.

It covers all services (transport, heat, electricity and motive power), and sources of renewable energy, with countries selecting those of relevance. The RRA comprises a process and a methodology that includes completing a set of templates and a final report. On the occasion of the RRA Mauritania, the Global Atlas was presented, as a potential supplier of data, data infrstructure and education for zoning renewable energy hotspots.

The main goal of the EGI-EUDAT collaboration is to harmonise the two eInfrastructures, including technical interoperability, authentication, authorisation and identity management, policy and operations. As main objective, this work is to provide end-users with a seamless access to an integrated infrastructure offering both EGI and EUDAT services and then, pairing data and high-throughput computing resources together. Selected user communities are able to bring requirements and help assign the right priorities to each of them. In this way, the integration activity has been driven by the end users from the start. The use case permits a user of either e-infrastructure to instantiate a VM on the EGI Cloud Federation for the execution of a computational job consuming data preserved onto EUDAT resources. The results of such analysis can be staged back to EUDAT storages, and if needed, allocated with Persistent identifiers (PIDs) for future use. To implement all the steps of this use case the following integration activities between the two infrastructures has to be fulfilled: (1) harmonisation between the authentication and authorisation model, (2) definition and implementation of the interfaces between the involved EGI and EUDAT services. The study showed that A.a. could be transformed with genomic and plasmid DNA present in microvesicles secreted into the growth medium of donor cells. This transformation occurred both in the presence and absence of components normally required for natural transformation in A.a. The results suggest outer membrane adhesion and fusion of donor microvesicles with recipient cells allows DNA delivery and homologous recombination. This novel mechanism could provide an easier method for genetically transforming A.a. compared to conventional techniques.

With the rapid development in Geographic Information Systems (GISs) and their applications, more and more geo-graphical databases have been developed by different vendors. However, data integration and accessing is still a big problem for the development of GIS applications as no interoperability exists among different spatial databases. In this paper we propose a unified approach for spatial data query. The paper describes a framework for integrating information from repositories containing different vector data sets formats and repositories containing raster datasets. The presented approach converts different vector data formats into a single unified format (File Geo-Database “GDB”). In addition, we employ “metadata” to support a wide range of users’ queries to retrieve relevant geographic information from heterogeneous and distributed repositories. Such an employment enhances both query processing and performance.
