In 1971, to combat the rapidly spreading naxal movement in East
India, the then Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi launched
Operation X. Indian paramilitary forces and a brigade of para
commandos along with Indian Army and State Police participated
in it.
Such was the secrecy level of this operation that even Lt. Gen. J.F.R.
Jacob’s request to receive the orders in writing was denied by the
army chief, General Sam Manekshaw. Give me X.
