X is a graphic novel by Art Spiegelman published serially from 1980 to 1991. It depicts Spiegelman interviewing his father about his experiences as a Holocaust survivor. Through postmodern techniques like depicting races as different animal types, it uses the personal story to explore broader historical and social themes. Upon its publication it was praised for bringing comics and graphic novels recognition as a legitimate art form. It was the first graphic novel to win a Pulitzer Prize in 1992.
