159th Street reconstruction that won the company
the Consultant Exceptional Service Award from the
Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) in the
category of The Urban Highway.
GEC provided engineering services that widened
159th Street, an area on US Route 6 from east of IL
Route 1 (Halsted Street) to I-294 (Tristate Tollway).
3. Part of a $59 million project, the third phase
required removal and replacement of seven railroad
bridges. In addition, drilled shaft caissons were
used to construct a retaining wall that also served
the purpose of solidifying the foundation. Other key
components to the project consisted of pavement
construction and traffic signal and roadway lighting
installation. The company coordinated efforts with
IDOT and the City of Harvey. Additionally, the
Canadian National Railroad, Ingalls Hospital, and
Metra contributed to its success.
