In 2006, Niranjan Shah, currently CEO of
Globetrotters Engineering Corporation,
received the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of
Honor. To be eligible for this award, a person
must meet one of four nominating criteria: to
live a life devoted to helping other people; to
preserve or celebrate the history, values, and
traditions of one’s heritage while
simultaneously acting as a lawful citizen of
the United States; to strive for acceptance
and tolerance of diverse groups; and to share
one’s gifts, whether personal or professional,
for humanity’s benefit.
3. About Ellis Island Medal of
Honor
Beyond meeting one of these qualifying
criteria, anyone can be nominated for the
Ellis Island Medal of Honor as long as he or
she is a citizen of the United States, either
native or naturalized. The Ellis Island Medal
of Honor is awarded by the National Ethnic
Coalition of Organizations. The coalition’s
website, www.neco.org, includes a database
of all Medal of Honor recipients, as well as
spotlighting a current recipient. The National
Ethnic Coalition of Organizations’ mission is
to facilitate tolerance, honor diversity, and
foster understanding between diverse
communities.
