London is composed of two ancient cities - the City of London, which is the original Roman settlement and financial center, and the City of Westminster, where Parliament and government offices are located. Some of London's most famous landmarks include Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, St. Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square, and The Shard. London is also home to numerous museums, galleries, libraries, and over 40 West End theatres.

There are so many things to do in London, it’s
hard to know where to start first. These are only
some of the palces shown here that could give
you ideas of palces to go visit during your stay.
But first some informartion on the city itself.
London is made up of two ancient cities which
are now joined together.
They are: the City of London, known simply as
“The City” which is the business and financial
heart of the United Kingdom. It is also known as
the Square Mile. It was the original Roman
settlement (ancient Londinium), making it the
oldest part of London and already 1,000 years
old when the Tower of London was built.
The City of Westminster, where Parliament and
most of the governemnt offices are located.
Also Buckingham Palace, the official London
residence of the Queen and the Royal family
are located their too. Together they all make up
a region known as Greater London.
London contains four World Heritage Sites: the
Tower of London; Kew Gardens; the site
comprising the Palace of Westminster,
Westminster Abbey, and St Margaret's Church;
and the historic settlement of Greenwich (in
which the Royal Observatory, Greenwich marks
the Prime Meridian, 0° longitude, and GMT).
Other famous landmarks include Buckingham
Palace, the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, St
Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar
Square, and The Shard. London is home to
numerous museums, galleries, libraries,
sporting events and other cultural institutions,
including the British Museum, National Gallery,
Tate Modern, British Library and 40 West End
theatres.The London Underground is the oldest
underground railway network in the world.
2. Westminster Abbey formally titled the Collegiate
Church of St Peter at Westminster, is a large, mainly
Gothic, church in the City of Westminster, London, located
just to the west of the Palace of Westminster. It is one of
the most notable religious buildings in the United Kingdom
and is the traditional place of coronation and burial site for
English and, later, British monarchs. The abbey is a Royal
Peculiar and between 1540 and 1550 had the status of a
cathedral; however, the church is no longer an abbey or a
cathedral.
4. St. Paul’s Cathedral

3. Buckingham Palace is the official London
residence and principal workplace of the monarchy if the
United Kingdom. Located in the City of Westminster, the
palace is often at the center of state occasions and royal
hospitality. It has been a focus for the British people at
times of national rejoicing.
5. The Bank of England is the central bank
of the United Kingdom. Sometimes known as the
“Old Lady” of Threadneedle Street, the Bank was
founded in 1694 with founding charter that stated
its purpose was to “promote the public good and
benefit our people.
6. The British Museum is a museum in
London dedicated to human history and culture. Its
permanent collection, numbering some 8 million
works, is among the largest and most
comprehensive in existence and originates from all
continents, illustrating and documenting the story of
human culture from its beginnings to the present.
