- The four major steps involved in the gas process as illustrated in the figure 1 include; The first step, which involves the separation of the crude oil into naphtha, light oils, and heavy oils using the heat at the Atmospheric distillation. In step 2, the Atmospheric residue is further distilled to extract oils under vacuum conditions in the vacuum distillation. In step 3, the Heavy oils are cracked into usable products, using various processes. For instance, the Coker and fluid catalytic cracker crack the heavy oils into water, diesel and gasoline. In addition, step 3 involves the removal of water from the diesel, gasoline, Naphtha and light oils such as kerosene using the specific hydrotreaters. In step 4, The final products are then developed in the Distillate and Gasoline Blending.
