The Peace Valley garter snake is a carnivore that eats small animals like frogs, salamanders, fish, toads, and bird eggs. It is preyed upon by larger snakes, birds like hawks and owls, frogs, turtles, and raccoons. It has black, brown, or tan coloring with a striped pattern and males are shorter and thinner than females at about 2 feet long. They live mainly near water in rocks, logs, and their skin is often found near rocks.
