ACADEMIC PROJECTS
Main project : A case study of facility and systematic layout planning for a
rice mill using Arena simulation software and craft algorithm.
Concept: This case study aims to study a rice mill using facility layout and systematic layout
planning(SLP).Flow process chart and activity relationship diagram were drawn. Three
alternatives were developed and evaluated taking material handling distance as a criterion. The
alternative layout helps to reduce the excessive transportation distance from 157.5m to 92m.
Also an attempt is made to simulate the factory layout using the software ARENA (student’s
version). Utilization of each machine is calculated.

2. SEMINAR
EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSIS OF AN ADHESIVE SURFACE GRINDING PROCESS
The objective of this investigation was to gain insight into how changes in feed, depth of cut and
grinding speed affect the specific grinding energy of the process during the roughing phase. A
variety of experiments were carried out on a simplified, surface grinding analog in which
grinding forces, grinding wheel temperature and grinding zone temperature were measured. The
result shows that specific grinding energy is sensitive to feed, depth of cut.
