The documentary will cover various popular video games such as Fortnite, Destiny 2, FIFA 18, and Overwatch. It will provide information on when the games were published, who developed them, what the games are about, and which consoles they can be played on. The documentary will be filmed in the filmmaker's bedroom and include gameplay footage with narration. It aims to inform and entertain viewers ages 12 and up.

5. GENRE RESEARCH: ACTION
• The action game genre is a game that emphasizes physical physical challenges, including
hand–eye coordination and reaction-time. The genre includes a large variety of sub-genres,
such as Fighting games, beat’em ups, shooting games and platform games which are widely
considered the most important action games, though multiplayer online battle arena and
some real-time strategy games are also considered to be action games.
• n an action game, the player typically controls a character often in the form of a protagonist
or avatar. This player character must navigate a level, collecting objects, avoiding obstacles,
and battling enemies with their natural skills as well as weapons and other tools at their
disposal. At the end of a level or group of levels, the player must often defeat a boss enemy
that is more challenging and often a major antagonist in the game's story. Enemy attacks
and obstacles deplete the player character’s health and lives, and the player receives a Game
over when they run out of lives. Alternatively, the player gets to the end of the game by
finishing a sequence of levels and seeing the credits. But some action games, such as

ADVENTURE GAME
• The action-adventure video game genre includes video games that combine core elements
from the action and adventure genres.
• With the decline of the adventure game genre from mainstream popularity, the use of the
term (and the hybrid term "action-adventure") has been more liberal. It is not uncommon for
gamers to apply the term "adventure" or "action" to describe the genre of fiction to which a
game belongs, and not the gameplay itself.
• Action-adventure is a hybrid genre, and thus the definition is very inclusive, leading it to be
perhaps the broadest genre of video games, and can include many games which might
better be categorized under narrow genres. Typically, pure adventure games have situational
problems for the player to solve, with very little or no action. If there is action, it is generally
confined to isolated minigames. Pure action games have gameplay based on real-time
interactions that challenge the reflexes. Therefore, action-adventure games engage both
reflexes and problem-solving, in both violent and non-violent situations.

PLAYING GAMES
• Action role-playing video games (abbreviated action RPG or ARPG) are a subgenre
of role-playing video games. The games emphasize real-time combat (where the
player has direct control over characters) over turn-based or menu-based combat.
These games often use action games combat systems similar to hack and
slash or shooter games.
• Action role-playing games may also incorporate action-adventure games, which
include a mission system and RPG mechanics, or massively multiplayer online role-
playing games (MMORPGs) with real-time combat systems.

8. GENRE RESEARCH: FIRST-PERSON
SHOOTER
• First-person shooter (FPS) is a video game genre centered around gun and other weapon-based combat in
a first-person perspective; that is, the player experiences the action through the eyes of the protagonist. The
genre shares common traits with other shooter games, which in turn makes it fall under the heading action
games. Since the genre's inception, advanced 3D and pseudo-3D graphics have challenged hardware
development, and multiplayer gaming has been integral.
• The first-person shooter genre has been traced as far back as Maze War, development of which began in
1973, and 1974’s spasim. Later, and after more playful titles like MIDI Maze in 1987, the genre coalesced into
a more violent form with 1992’s Wolfinstien 3D, which has been credited with creating the genre's basic
archetype upon which subsequent titles were based. One such title, and the progenitor of the genre's wider
mainstream acceptance and popularity was DOOM, perhaps one of the most influential games in this genre;
for some years, the term Doom clone was used to designate this genre due to Doom's influence.
• 1998’s Half-Life—along with its 2004 sequel Half-Life 2—enhanced the narrative and puzzle elements. In

9. GENRE RESEARCH: SPORT GAMES
• A sports game is a video game genre that simulates the practice of sports. Most
sports have been recreated with a game, including team sports, track and
field, extreme sports and combat sports. Some games emphasize actually playing
the sport (such as the Madden NFL series), whilst others emphasize strategy
and sport management (such as Championship manager and Out of the park
baseball). Some, such as Need for Speed, Arch Rivals and Punch-out!!, satirize the
sport for comic effect. This genre has been popular throughout the history of video
games and is competitive, just like real-world sports. A number of game series
feature the names and characteristics of real teams and players, and are updated
annually to reflect real-world changes.

10. SCREENPLAY
• So when you watch my documentary first of all you will see a pan shot of my
bedroom and then me sitting in my chair and then from there onwards will be
gameplay with my narration over the top of it providing information about each
game shown on the screen.

• Since my documentary being a solo project I am the one who has covered all of the
areas such as: editing, recording and narration etc.

12. LOCATION SCOUT
• So for the documentary I will be filming in my own home so therefore I do not need
permission to film.
• This location is the best for me as no other locations that I know of have the type of
equipment that I need to record all of the clips and everything else needed for the
documentary.

13. HEALTH AND SAFETY
• there are not many health and safety precautions to be considered byt the ones that
have been considered is the plugs incase they go on fire, the lightbulb in my
bedroom and also if there is any part of my bedroom that I can fall over and there
wasn’t so the health and safety is covered.

15. AUDIENCE
• So the audience that I am aiming for in this documentary is going to be 12 onwards
even though some of the games that are in the documentary are aged 18 to play
them some teenagers who are under the age of 18 are still allowed to play them
with their parental consent. So for that reason I am going for 12 onwards and
obviously people aged over 18 still play video games but they might not have much
knowledge on them so that is also another reason for me making the documentary
for that audience.

16. SHOT TYPES
• At the start of the documentary there is a pan shot of my bedroom and then after
the shot of my bedroom the is a high angle of me sitting down at my desk ready to
start the documentary and then at the end of the documentary there is a regular
shot of me saying “thank you for watching my documentary and I hope you enjoyed
it.”

17. EQUIPMENT BOOKING
• All of the equipment I used in the documentary was my own, I used: legato came
capture, camera, playstation and a astro headset for the audio recording.

18. EDIT LIST
• Fades – I chose to use fades as they are effective and are a nice transition that help
the documentary run smoothly.
• Transitions – I chose to use different transitions so I wasn’t using the same
transitions all of the time which would of made it very boring and repetitive.

19. POST PRODUCTION REVIEW
• So for my post production review my final product didn’t match up to my original one as I
couldn’t record footage at the boxing event that I was going to make the documentary on
so therefore I changed it to gaming.
• This would also be more appropriate for my target audience who are aged 12 onwards.
• This is appropriate for my target audience because they are the type of ages that start
playing video games and it is the gameplay footage that they can see which will make them
interact more with the documentary.
• Live footage of me in the documentary so that the audience have an idea of how old I am
and they can interact with the documentary because of it.
• The sound is provided by my headset/ microphone to record the voice overs. This is also a
convention that the audience will be comfortable with already.
