GAME SHOW CASE STUDIES
TAKE ME OUT
•Style- Dating Show
•Contestants-Voluntary men and women looking to find someone
•Schedule-Saturday 8:00pm, ITV1 and ITV2 but also repeated at other times
•Audience-Targets a younger audience of either gender (16-35), but more females, as a romantic show would generally appeal more to them but is
also entertaining for families to watch. It doesn’t attract viewers who prefer more informative, intellectual programs.
•Presenter- Paddy McGuinness, a well known comedian.
•Structure- Women stand around a large, curved panel with their names presented beneath them, each with a light and button to turn it off.
Meanwhile a man is displayed at the front, after gradually appearing from a lift, and has rounds to tell the women some information about himself
while the women judge if they like him, and turn the light off if not.
•Rules- There are three stages or levels to the man introducing himself. It starts with a first impression and the women decide if they initially like
the look of the male. It progresses to the man showing a video about himself, it often includes information about his job, where he lives, his
hobbies etc. Finally the man shows either one talent or a close friend/relative talking about them. If by the third round he has still has a number of
women's lights on he has the choice to cut it down to just two, and then ask them both a question to help decide who he takes to Fernandos with
him. However, if he has no lights left it means he returns home without a girl.
Success- Take me out is a very popular game show with the younger generation. It’s had a wide saturation throughout British TV media however is
viewed as a silly, informal show.
POINTLESS
•Style- Trivia Quiz
•Contestants-Voluntary men and women partaking to win a small fortune

•Presenter- Alexander Armstrong, a comedian, presenter and actor.
•Structure- A large board displays categories. Contestants are behind pillars with their partners while Armstrong and co presenter Richard Osman.
•Rules- Contestants chose a category to explore and then are asked a question related to the selected category. They then have to pick an answer
which a survey of a random 100 people were least likely to have chosen, aiming to get a pointless answer. Those with the largest points leave.
