NARIT is Thailand's national research institute for astronomy. It aims to develop astronomy education in Thailand and Southeast Asia through several initiatives:
1. It supports astronomy education in Thai schools and universities by developing curriculum and signing agreements with cooperative universities.
2. NARIT established the Thai National Observatory with a 2.4-meter telescope to conduct research and provide training.
3. It leads regional astronomy networks and collaborates internationally on education, research, and telescope development to advance the field in Southeast Asia.

The 3rd Regional Galaxy Forum Southeast Asia is taking place at the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) branch office in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. In addition to ILOA, the event is co-organized by the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB). Faculty of the Department of Astronomy at ITB have been a key factor in the development of the regional SEA Galaxy Forum program.
Indonesia, the world’s 4th most populous country, is building 21st Century capabilities and investing in the future of Astronomy and Astronautics to the immediate benefit of students in every class across the archipelago. Scientists at the Bosscha Observatory, ITB and others, continue with plans to construct a 2.5-m class telescope and a 1-m radio telescope at Mount Timau or Mount Rinjani.
LAPAN is planning to complete work on a Space Port and Launch Center at Morotai Island by 2025. This complex is to act as the test site and future operational base of the LAPAN experimental satellite launcher. Last year the Rocket Technology Center conducted a successful static test of the RX 320 booster generating thrust of up to 4.9 tons. This is one of two rockets that will form the building blocks of the 4 stage orbital satellite rocket Roket Pengorbit Satelit (RPS) that is currently in development.

The Moon offers some unique advantages for future very-large optical telescopes. The airless environment, slow lunar rotation and precession would enable a zenith-pointing telescope, located near one of the lunar poles, to survey a large region of sky and study the epoch of galaxy formation. I will present results from a recent NASA/CSA study that considered the feasibility of lunar liquid-mirror telescopes having apertures in the 20 to 100 metre range.

Comparison and integration of spaceborne optical and radar data for mapping i...rsmahabir
The purpose of this study was to determine how different procedures and data, such as multiple wavelengths of radar imagery and radar texture measures, independently and in combination with optical imagery influence land-cover/use classification accuracies for a study site in Sudan. Radarsat-2 C-band and phased array L-band synthetic aperture radar (PALSAR) L-band quad-polarized radar were registered with ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) optical data. Spectral signatures were obtained for multiple landscape features, classified using a maximum-likelihood decision rule, and thematic accuracies were obtained using sepa- rate validation data. There were surprising differences between the thematic accuracies of the two radar data sets, with Radarsat-2 only having a 51% accuracy and PALSAR 73%. In contrast, the optical ASTER overall accuracy was 81%. Combining the original radar and a variance texture measure increased the Radarsat-2 to 78% and PALSAR to 80%, whereas the two original radar bands together had an accuracy of 87%. Sensor fusion of optical and radar obtained an accuracy of 93%. Based on these results, the use of multiwavelength quad-polarized radar imagery combined or inte- grated with optical imagery has great potential in improving the accuracy of land- cover/use classifications. In tropical and high-latitude regions of the world, where persistent cloud cover hinders the use of optical satellite systems, land management programmes may find this research promising.

astronomy for school teaching
2. experiences in astronomical
observations
3. concept ideas on the development
of astronomy curriculum in school 42
43. Teacher Training Workshop in
Astronomy: Intermediate Level
30 teachers/workshop, 1
workshop/year select teachers
from BASIC level workshop or
teachers who has experiences in
teaching astronomy in school
Goals: To provide school teachers
with
