There are three main types of galaxies: spiral, elliptical, and irregular. Spiral galaxies are characterized by a spiral disk and bright center, and our Milky Way is a spiral galaxy. Elliptical galaxies vary in shape from round to elongated and have no bright center. Irregular galaxies have no discernible shape. Examples of each type are provided.
