- 3. Road To Independence Gala Who will be attending? What happens at the event? Why are volunteers so important?
- 4. Volunteer Dress Code: Black Cocktail Attire Ladies: What does this mean? – Black dress or skirt (at least knee-length) – Black dress slacks (full- length). No khakis, capris, shorts. – Blouses or button down shirts. No polo or t-shirts. – Formal flats or sensible heels - You will mostly be on your feet. No boots, mules or casual sandals.

- Thank you all for taking time out of your evening to attend our 15th annual Road to Independence Gala orientation. Tonight we will be covering the whos the whats and the why of the gala as well as Volunteer Expectations and Roles at the gala
- Approximately 600 people attended last year’s gala and we expect the same if not more this year. Attendees are business and community leaders and are very generous philanthropists.Guest usually start to arrive around six, they will register and proceed to the atrium where they take advantage of cocktails, passed hor’devers, bid on silent auction items and network. The doors to the ballroom will open at 8pm and guests will be invited in to take their seat for a three course meal, program including client testimonials, presentation of community champion awards, and a Live Auction and Live appeal. Guests will generally exit the ballroom around 10pm, pickup any auction item they won and leave for the evening. Volunteers are important because staff just could not make this event a success alone. Volunteers allow us to have a great event that runs smoothly so guests can have an enjoyable experience and will make them want to invest in NVFS and come back next year and even continue to support other initiatives throughout the year.

- Volunteers should expect to arrive 30 minutes prior to their volunteer schedule.It is very important that volunteers stay for the duration of their volunteer shift. As previously stated we rely on volunteers to ensure the event runs smoothly and that guests have a memorable experience. If a volunteer leaves early it can throw off the flow of the event. If there is a case where we have an overabundance of volunteers then we will give volunteers the option of leaving early.There will be refreshments available for all volunteers. Dinner will also be provided but plan on eating a late dinner, around 8:00 or 8:15pm.Please limit personal conversations to the volunteer break room. We really want to make sure that our undivided attention is being paid the guests.
- As a volunteer you are representative of NVFS. NVFS staff adhere to certain core values and the expectation is that our volunteers will do the same. Again we are to ensure that they having a memorable experience. If you don’t know the answer seek out someone who doesVolunteers are more than welcomed to bid on silent auction items. Volunteer MUST register before the event and we will send the link. There is absolutely no way that we can register you on the day of the event to bid. Also please make your bidding secondary to your volunteer duties.
