The document announces the publication of a new book called "Bible Bullies" which explores how some people misuse the Bible to force their beliefs on others. The book identifies 14 personality traits of these "Bible bullies" and how they target various groups. It discusses how Bible bullies not only abuse victims locally but also try to influence politics to establish an exclusively Christian nation. The book aims to explain several political issues from a perspective most Christians have not considered and rebuts arguments used by Bible bullies.

The foundation of all three of these aspects are already present, but Peoplehood is what is lacking the most. Little empirical attention has been devoted to the link between black Protestant adherence and crime, despite significant public and political interest in the correlates of offending in black communities, as well as both historical treatments of the black church and prominent sociological theories pointing to black Protestantism as working to mitigate social problems. Using 2010 Religious Congregations and Membership Survey and county-level crime data, we examine whether black Protestantism is negatively associated with homicide, robbery, burglary, and larceny, especially in more disadvantaged black communities. We conclude by discussing the ongoing public
debate surrounding the future of the black Protestant church, and we suggest directions for future research.

1) What do the conventional sociology and political science literatures argue about the role of religion in sociopolitical stability and why? According to the book, how do Abrahamic monotheisms factor into these effects?
Conventional sociology literature argues that monotheism played a key role in setting the foundations for social stability. As discussed in Chapter 1 of the WPP Book as well as the class lecture, it was emphasized that in order for social stability to exist, violence, anarchy and abuse of various types of power needed to be eradicated. A way in which this could be done is through the moral self-restraint offered by religions. For example, in some religions the notion of afterlife and whether an individual goes to heaven or hell is of utmost importance, and is driven by the ways in which the individual acts in their current life. Thus, individuals may feel more inclined to act properly and abide by the rules/notions of their religion and therefore societal norms because they want to end up in Heaven. Additionally, Abrahamic monotheisms are characterized by One God- one omnipotent supreme being that has control over the universe and has specific desires/wishes that he wants humans to full-fill that he then communicates to them. This creates an additional level of accountability between a follower and the One God, because the relationship that a follower develops with this One God is personalized and has consequences/benefits that extend into the afterlife. Therefore, faith and theology are important mechanisms by which to constrain human wants and desires, such as health and wealth. Followers often times emphasize and prioritize the immaterial benefits they receive from the Universe and the deity as opposed to fleeting material desires, showing that religion, and especially the Abrahamic monotheisms, can play an important role in sociopolitical stability from the sociological perspective.
Political scientists, in contrast, have argued that religion and political forces have complemented one another in creating an effective centralized governmental mechanism. They also gathered data and analyzed trends on how religious rivalries or affinities, especially those including the Abrahamic monotheisms, created and maintained violent conflict throughout world history. Religions, when combined with political institutions, often offer more credibility for both the religion as well as the political institution and are able to create more of a following. Abrahamic monotheisms in particular create an added benefit for sociopolitical stability because the subscribers to the religion only believe in that One God (For example: Christianity and Jesus), and thus when these Abrahamic monotheisms are combined with a political institution, they can become the state's official religion as well as create a higher entry barrier for other religions with rival claims attempting to influence citizens and destabilize the society at large. An overview of religion and politics
In comparison with other nations, faith in ten United States has a very high adherence level. In accordance with the first amendment if the united states constitution, the government should not interfere with religious practices in any way. Religion should be free to exercise irrespective of any underlying circumstances. In contrast with other developed nations, religion has become a crucial aspect in the lives of Americans. It has helped them to make logical decisions as well as considerations in their life (Barber, N. (2012). To add to this religious diversity, the United States has both imported religion as well as indigenous faiths. In the 19th and 20th centuries, the two core parties differed along ethnic as well as religious grounds. The northern inhabitants were both the Protestants, Whigs, or republicans, while in the south, most of the Democrats were Catholics. At the end of the 19th century, the population ion the south was comprised of white democrats and black republicans.
Composition of the Christian population
Approximately 70% of the entire American population are Christians, while the other 6% of the population is a combination of diverse faiths like Islam, Judaism, and Hinduism. It is estimated that 23% of the entire population have no religious affiliations at all (Barber, N. (2012). However, the extent of faith varies among the people residing in the East and West. While only around 50% entirely adhere to the belief in the western states, approximately 90% of the population in the south are sound believers. With the foundation of the United States under religious frameworks, the nation has incorporated so many religions hence the name Protestant nation. Nevertheless, most of these religions in the states are politically active, just like the politicians (Barber, N. (2012).
It is sporadic not to hear a politician mention religion in the eve of campaigns. Politics are as important as religion in the count ...

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…
The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.
Gadfly Publishing Announces Bible Bullies: How Fundamentalists Got the Good Book So Wrong
1. Gadfly Publishing Announces Bible Bullies: How Fundamentalists Got the
Good Book So Wrong
Bible Bullies is a controversial new book that explores the nature of a special kind of bully:
the kind who use the Bible to force or coerce others into conforming to their beliefs.
Lutz, FL, May 14, 2013 -- Bible Bullies is a controversial new book that explores the nature
of a special kind of bully: the kind who use the Bible to force or coerce others into
conforming to their beliefs. The book identifies fourteen personality traits of these bullies,
their tactics, and how they misuse the Bible to abuse children and attack identified “out-
groups,” including women, the LGBT community, and social programs for the
disadvantaged. Six of these personality traits were previously identified in a study,
commissioned after World War II by the American Jewish Committee, to try to understand
the mind-set of Europeans who supported Hitler’s atrocities.
Chapters discuss misogyny, sexual diversity, child abuse, intelligent design, public prayer,
separation of church and state, social programs, and family planning, in the process
revealing specific targets of Bible bullies and their misguided use of Scripture in their assault
on their victims.
After identifying the salient traits of Bible bullies and how they attack their victims, the
book discusses the bullies’ MO—how they operate. Not content with abusing just the
victims in their own hometown, the Bible bullies seek to expand their personal power
2. through political means, by arguing against separation of church and state and pushing for
an exclusively Christian nation. The end goal, it seems, is to undermine the constitutional
civil liberties guaranteed to us all.
The final chapters reveal the crucial rift in the New Testament that laid the groundwork for
those seeking to distort the message of peace and love brought by Jesus.
Bible Bullies, through biblical analysis and documented research, explains many of the
political issues of our times in ways that most Christians have not considered:
1. Why the Paul Ryan budget conflicts with the message of Jesus
2. Why pro-life advocates are violating freedom of religion and how they can save more
unborn lives by abandoning attacks on Roe v. Wade and focusing on alternate strategies
3. Why gays, lesbians and transsexuals are born the way that God created them
4. Why using the biblical rod causes juvenile delinquency, depression, behavior disorders
and hatred of authority
5. Why Congress continues to be misogynistic and why Jesus was not
6. Why civil laws differ drastically from the biblical laws of Leviticus and how Jesus
pioneered the change
7. Why King James I sponsored the translation of the Bible for his own political gain, and
what he and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Scalia have in common
8. Why conflating politics with religion can be dangerous, as it was when Hitler declared
Germany a Christian nation prior to WWII
9. Why the fundamentalist attack on educational institutions has contributed to the low
standing of students in science in the United States in comparison with the standing of
students of other nations, and what can be done about it without attacking religious beliefs
Bible Bullies will be published in both E-book and trade book formats (epub and mobi)
through all online retailers as well as in all bookstores by July 4, 2013. A video book trailer
