TOPIC:
WITNESSING TO
JESUS LOVE
(Lesson 4.1:
Jesus Binds Man and
Woman)
Objectives:
➢ Describe God as the bond between husband and
wife.
➢ Point the importance of love in uniting man and
woman, and keeping all human relationships
healthy and holy.

the love of their parents.
A reading from the book of Genesis 29:16-31
Now Laban had two daughters; the name of the older was Leah, and
the name of the younger was Rachel. Leah had weak eyes, but
Rachel had a lovely figure and was beautiful. Jacob was in love with
Rachel and said, “I’ll work for you seven years in return for your
younger daughter Rachel.”
Laban said, “It’s better that I give her to you than to some other man.
Stay here with me.” So Jacob served seven years to get Rachel, but
they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her.
Then Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife. My time is completed,
and I want to make love to her.”
So Laban brought together all the people of the place and gave a feast. But when
evening came, he took his daughter Leah and brought her to Jacob, and Jacob
made love to her. And Laban gave his servant Zilpah to his daughter as her
attendant.
When morning came, there was Leah! So Jacob said to Laban, “What is this you have
done to me? I served you for Rachel, didn’t I? Why have you deceived me?”
Laban replied, “It is not our custom here to give the younger daughter in marriage
before the older one. Finish this daughter’s bridal week; then we will give you the
younger one also, in return for another seven years of work.”
And Jacob did so. He finished the week with Leah, and then Laban gave him his
daughter Rachel to be his wife. Laban gave his servant Bilhah to his daughter Rachel
as her attendant. Jacob made love to Rachel also, and his love for Rachel was
greater than his love for Leah. And he worked for Laban another seven years.
COURTSHIP
MARRIED LIFE
● Married Life - state of life that a man and woman
choose to live in love, united and sanctified by God
in the sacrament of Matrimony.
● It is a Christian vocation, a call of God for a purpose:
to build, with the help of divine grace, a lifelong,
intimate, and sacramental partnership of love and
life.
● It is a personal call, therefore, it is offered freely and
must be accepted freely.
● Marriage demands faithfulness.
MISCONCEPTION ON MARRIED LIFE
● Some of the misconceptions about married life includes:
1. Marriage as a solution to a problem.
2. Marriage as utopia. (perfect state or condition, devoid of
suffering and trial)
3. Marriage as a romantic love story.
4. Marriage makes converts.
MISSION OF THE MARRIED COUPLE
● NOBLE MISSION OF THE MARRIED COUPLE: to foster
the Kingdom of God.
● By sharing the love of Christ to each other and to the
community, they are sharing in the bringing of the
Kingdom of God here and now.
● CFC 1929 - “Christian marriage and family are the
key factors in this mission. It is especially through the
everyday, give-and-take of family life, that most
Filipinos have some concrete experience of God’s
Kingdom, already here but not yet fully”.
● Tasks of Christian family according to Pope John Paul
II on his “Familiaris Consortio”:
1. Form a community of persons.
2. Serve life through procreation and education of
offspring
3. Participate in the development of society
4. Share in the mission of the Church.
How does your parents keep their
love for each other?
HOW CAN A MARRIED COUPLE KEEP THEIR
RELATIONSHIP
● God must be the center of the relationship. Their relationship
is not just about loving each other. God is their bond.
● Prayer can nourish and preserve their relationship. It brings
them closer to one another towards becoming one.
● Grace unites and inflames love. A married couple needs the
grace of God to remain faithful to their covenant. One of
their sources is no other than the Holy Eucharist where their
relationship is blessed, nurtured, and nourished.
Do you think you are helping to
keep your parents in love with one
another?
THE CHILD CAN HELP IN THE LOVE OF THE
PARENTS
● “Honor your father and your mother” (Exodus 20:12)
● Respect for parents (filial piety) derives from gratitude toward
those who, by the gift of life, their love and their work, have
brought their children into the world and enabled them to grow
in stature, wisdom, and grace.
● This commandment is not only a commandment but also a way
to help our parents to remain in love with each other. We are
the fruit of their love.
● Through our presence we can remind them of that love with
each other.
