5. What do we mean
“Science”?
∞ For us, science is about the world around us
∞ Science is everywhere.
∞ Science includes all areas (Science, Technology,
Engineering, Math = STEM)
∞ Science is discovery, curiosity, experiments,
future, exploration.
∞ Math and science are basic building blocks that
help to ensure a future full of possibilities….

6. Why girls?
∞ Why not? The numbers paint us a picture and each part of the world has
different needs.
 Self‐esteem drops – 75% of 6th grade girls (11 years old) feel confident about
themselves. Once girls reach 10th grade girls (15 years old), this number drops
to 55%.
 One fifth of female computer science students question whether or not they
belong there.
 Only 20% of women with a math or science degree even work in a related
field.
 Only 16% of students in engineering class are women (this is in the US – the %
is much lower in other countries). Later on once practicing in the field, in a
room of 25 engineers, only 3 will be women.
 In Europe, only 30% of researchers are women.
 Less than 10% of young girls in Europe are considering to become a scientist.
 One in every three girls in the developing world is married by the age of 18.
These girls tend to drop out of school shortly before or when they get
married.

8. What have been our results
so far?
∞ The numbers… so far
 Reached 6,730 girls of all ages and backgrounds
 Engaged more than 550 volunteers worldwide
 Conducted 40 events in Brussels, Kinshasa, New Bedford, Bangalore,
Odense, Eindhoven, Mol, Budapest, plus more
 Presented at conferences in Estonia, Belgium, UAE, India, Massachusetts,
Oregon, Switzerland
 Created 2 science libraries in orphanages in India & Cameroon
 Identified 1st group of girls from disadvantaged community for our global
scholarship
∞ The impact… so far
 In a follow‐up survey to our event, a full 94 percent of girls who attended
said the event encouraged them to pursue science subjects, and this from
some who are not currently enrolled in science studies.
 Numerous parents have personally thanked us for the inspiration we have
given to their children and have let us know that we have had a positive
impact on their studies and aspirations.
