Guiseppe Getto, an assistant professor at East Carolina University, is focused on integrating user experience design (UX) into the technical and professional communication program. His current projects include research on content strategy and user interface analysis, and he aims to enhance teaching through new assignments and grad-level classes on UX design. Furthermore, he is fostering community engagement through partnerships and presentations to promote UX strategies in local organizations.

Building UX Knowledge within an Engaged University .
As
a
new
assistant
professor
in
the
Technical
and
Professional
Communication
(TPC)
program
at
ECU,
I’m
working
to
inject
knowledge
about
user
experience
design
(UX)
into
the
program,
as
well
as
the
university-­‐at-­‐large.
Right
now,
the
program
is
strongest
in
technical
writing,
editing,
risk
communication,
health
communication,
web
design,
usability,
and
information
design.
My
main
value-­‐adds
will
be
new
user
research
methods
and
new
modalities
of
content
strategy/information
architecture
(e.g.
contextual
inquiry,
field
studies,
persona
development,
wireframes,
sitemaps,
taxonomies,
etc.).
Because
I’m
untenured,
I’m
doing
this
within
the
traditional
frameworks
of
research,
teaching,
and
service.
