14. CHERRYIS AN ANTIBACTERIALAGENT/ (Cherry,sweet,sour,andwildspecies
ScientificnamePrunus avium)
Botanically, they belong to the family of rosaceae of genus, prunus,
which also includes “drupe” family of fruits like plums, peaches,
apricots etc.. Although several species of cherries exist, two important
cultivars;wild or sweet cherry and sour or tart cherry are widely
popular. Wild or sweet cherry belongs to the species; prunus avium,
and tart cherry belongs to that of prunus cerasus.. Cherry trees are
closely related to almonds, peaches, plums, apricots, which all belong to the
same genus.
The cherry fruit contains dietary fiber and minerals like calcium, iron,
magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, sodium, zinc, copper,
manganese, and selenium. In addition, small amounts of vitamins A, C,
B6, B12, E, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and pantothenic acid can be
found in cherries.
They also contain Beta carotene, with sour cherries being shown to
have more Beta carotene than sweet cherries. Cherry fruit have
antioxidants like pectin and anthocyanins that have been linked to the
prevention of cancer and heart disease.

The flavonoids contained in cherriesare responsiblefortheirdeepred-bluecolor. In

concentrationof flavonoids. Thisappliesto bothsweetandsourcherries.
Studieshaveshownthat cherriesmay also offersignificantanticancerprotection.Tart
cherriescontainperillyl alcohol(POH). Studieshaveshownthat perillyl alcoholis
effectivein reducingtheincidenceofall typesof cancer. Studieshavealso shown
that cherriesareparticularlybeneficial inthetreatment ofgout. Gout isa type of
arthritisthat occurswhenthereis an abnormallyhighconcentrationofuricacidinthe
blood.
Surprisingly,theactual juicefromcherriesisapotent antibacterial agentthat fightstooth
decay. StudiesperformedatForsythDental Centerhave shownthat blackcherryjuicecan
blockupto 89% ofenzyme activitythat normallyleadsto plaqueformation.
1.Anti-InflammatoryActivities
Cherrieshavegainedfameas oneofnature'smost powerful anti-inflammatories,which

18.COCONUT CANSTABILIZE BLOOD SUGAR (‫ل‬ ‫’).اری‬ Scientific name Cocos nucifera,
‘
The coconut palm, Cocos nucifera, is a member of
the family Arecaceae (palmfamily). It is the only accepted species in
the genus Cocos..
The termcoconut can refer to the entire coconut palm, the seed, or
the fruit, which is not a botanical nut. The spelling cocoanut is an old-fashioned
form of the word. Early Spanish explorers called coconuts/cocos nucifera "coco"
(meaning "monkey face").
Coconuts provide an excellent source of copper, manganese, and molybdenum.
They are also a good source of selenium and zinc. Similar to most other nuts,
coconuts contain a large amount of fat. Unlike other nuts, coconuts provide fat that
is almost all in the form of health-promoting medium-chain saturated fats instead of
long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids.
