REFERENCE Ruth 1:20
“And she said to them, call
me not Naomi (pleasant);
call me Mara (bitter), for
the Almighty has dealt
very bitterly with me.”
OBJECTIVE
To redefine what
being ‘bitter’ and
‘better’ means.
To outline the
pathway to
bitterness.
To empower you
and I for a shift
from ‘bitterness’
to being ‘better’.
BITTERNESS REDEFINED
Having the potential or
inherent capability to be great,
but you are useless; worthless,
insignificant but present.
BITTERNESS REDEFINED
Having the capacity to
succeed but living as a
failure.
OVERVIEW
Bitterness could either
be an ‘emotion’ or an ‘
outcome’. In this
context of our
teaching, our priority is
on the latter-bitterness
as an outcome.

CAUSES OF
BITTERNESS
1. Short term
thinking: this
breeds indiscipline,
subjects people to
instant gratification
& unpreparedness
for opportunities.
Gen.13:10.
2. Foolish decisions:
don’t make decisions
out of psychological
instability,
desperation, trying to
appear important &
imitation. Gen.25:31-
32, Gen.3:6
3. Shortcut belief:
greatness is not a
process of
shortcut but
aligning with the
‘law of process’.
Exo.13:17-18
4. Negative self-
image: your self-
image produces
your self-identity,
which in turn
defines your
concept.
Num.13:30-33.
5. Self-imposed
limitations: these
are giving excuses,
complaining,
procrastination,
worry etc. Effect
any change.
Exo.16:1-3.
6. Demonic
orchestration:
interception of
satanic
supernatural in a
person’s destiny.
1Chr.4:9.
7. Waiting without
responsibility:
“waiting on God” is
different from
“waiting for God.”
waiting on luck & the
belief that “what will
be will be.” Ecc.11:4.
8. Mediocre-
thinking: means,
maintaining
status-quo, being
average, subject
to patterns.
Num.14:1-5.
