GROUPS OF PROTOCOLS
•Fieldbus
Current mainstream and getting older now.
• Based on Ethernet(Industrial Ethernet)
New technology. Higher speed and large data.
• Protocol for Building Automation
Not real-time communication, but specialization for BA.
Modbus-RTU, DeviceNet, PROFIBUS-DP, CANopen, CC-Link, T-Link, SX-bus
Modbus-TCP, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, (EtherCAT), (PowerLink)

PROFINET-RT
ETHERNET IP
Industrial Protocoloriginally developed
by Rockwell Automation. It treats
devices on the network as objects and
is compatible with DeviceNET and
ControlNET.
- Successor of DeveiceNet and ControllNet
(Integration)
- Standard protocol for Allen Bradly’ s PLC
- Number of Node, Baudrate and Max Cable Length
: Depends on Ethernet
- MEGA’s supports 100BASE-TX
- Not suitable for Motion control.
7.
PROFIBUS DP
Originally developedby the German Department
of Education. Links a controller or a control system
with field devices. Supported by Siemens.
- Most popular in the world (EU, CHINA)
- Standard protocol for Siemens’ PLC
- Max. 126 Slaves/segment
- Baudrate: 9.6Kbps thru 12Mbps
- Total cable Length Max. 3937Ft @93.75Kbps or less
- Data length : 244bytes max.
- Enough specification even as an old network
but being replaced with PROFINET
8.
PROFINET
An Ethernet basedcommunication Protocol.
Devices can run on the same
Ethernet network as the office computers.
- Most popular network as an industrial Ethernet
- Standard protocol for Siemens’ PLC
- Number of Node, Baudrate and Max Cable Length
: Depends on Ethernet cabling
- PROFINET supports 100BASE-TX
- Generally use : PROFINET RT
OVERVIEW OF PROFINET

12 Mbps max
Wire Length 100m (Device to
controller or switch)
100m-1200m (Totally)
Number of Device No limit
(depends on IP
address)
Up to 126

WHY PROFINET?
Why PROFINET?(Pros.)
• High Performance (speed and data cap.)
• Easy connectivity with PC/ Internet
• Coexistence on 1 line
(Quick, Slow Device, PC, HMI and Office)
• Stronger Redundancy (Ring Topology)
• Accepts other benefits of Advance
Ethernet technology
