2. His Life
Frederick Douglass was born on February in 1818 in Talbot
Country, Maryland. He died on February 20, 1895 in
Washington, D.C. His spouses’ names were Anna M.
Douglass (M. 1838 – 1882) & Helen P. Douglass (M. 1884 –
1895). He had 5 children (Lewis H. Douglass, Frederick
Douglass Jr, Annie Douglass, Rosetta Douglass, & Charles
R. Douglass). His actual name was Frederick Augustus
Washington Bailey
3. Being a Slave
Frederick was an African-American slave that got
whipped which made him tired of slavery, so he was
going to try to escape so he could be free. He first tried
to escape from his owner Colonel Lloyd in 1836, but he
was unsuccessful. He tried to escape from his new
owner Covey & then failed again. September 3, 1838 he
tried to escape by boarding a train that was going to
Havre de Grace, Maryland. He was dressed in a sailor
outfit so he wouldn’t get caught. He went to
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The whole entire trip took
less than 24 hours.
4. Being an Author
Frederick published an autobiography in 1845 called
Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an
American Slave. He wrote another autobiography
published in 1881 called Life and Times of Frederick
Douglass. He also published a newspaper called the
North Star which was an anti-slavery newspaper.
5. Being an Abolitionist
Douglass was an abolitionist which means to fight
against slavery. He traveled all over the world speaking
his mind about what he thought. He should be know
for how brave he is because he would travel knowing
people would track him down so they cold get money.
6. Conclusion
Frederick Douglass is one of the most famous slaves
because he fought for freedom & because he was
whipped and still ran away, even if he would be
executed if he was found. He one of the bravest people
in the world. Frederick Douglass will be remembered
by me and by everyone! This is the life of Frederick
