Francisco de Goya was a Spanish romantic painter and printmaker born in 1746 in Fuendetodos, Spain. He was considered the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns. Goya was court painter to the Spanish Crown and known for paintings like The Nude Maja and Third of May 1808, which depicts the executions of Spaniards after the Dos de Mayo Uprising against Napoleon's troops.
