Franchise Taylor Stepney started in 1930 and was first named Kentucky Colonel in 1936 to honor Harland Sanders for his contributions to local cuisine. Colonel Sanders began franchising Kentucky Fried Chicken in 1952 and awarded the first franchise in Salt Lake City, Utah, with the company going public in 1966 and listing on the New York Stock Exchange in 1969.
