Binge-eating disorder is characterized by eating large amounts of food very quickly without feeling hungry and feeling a lack of control over eating. People with this disorder eat much more than intended and feel guilt or shame afterwards. Unlike bulimia or anorexia, they do not compensate with purging or exercise. Treatment may involve cognitive behavioral therapy, family therapy, hospitalization, and medications to help control urges and manage food preoccupation.

2. • a person with binge-eating disorder normally
eats regularly too much food[binge] and feel a
lack of control over one’s eating-also called
compulsive overeating
• Clients eats quickly or eat more food than
intended ,even when not feeling hungry and
may continue eating even long after
uncomfortably full-these individuals often
become obese

3. • Obese has adverse effects on both health and
longevity .it also may adversely affect mental
health –it is not classified as eating disorder in
DSM-IV (APA)

4. • After binge one feels guilty ,disgusted or
shame d by ones behaviour and the amount
of food eaten
• But one does not compensate this behaviour
with excessive exercise or purging as someone
with bulimia or anorexia might.
• Embarrassment can lead to eating alone to
hide one s binging.

5. • Researchers believe that binge-eating is the
most common eating disorder ,affecting 15%
to50&% of people in weight control programs
(America psychiatric association APA 2000)

6. 2 PICA
• Pica is persistently eating non-food items like
soap ,cloths talcum powder or dirt
• Eating such substance is not appropriate for
the person’s developmental level and not part
of specific cultural or social practices

7. • Persistent eating of these non-food items can
result in medical complication such as
poisoning ,intestinal problems or infections
• Pica often occurs along with other disorders
such as autism spectrum disorder or
intellectual disability

8. 3 RUMINATION DISORDER
• Rumination disorder is repeatedly and
persistently regurgitating food after eating
,but it’s not due to a medical condition or
other disorders such as anorexia ,bulimia or
binge -eating disorders

9. • Food is brought back up into mount without
nausea or gagging .some times regurgitated
food is rechewed and reswallowed or spit out
• The disorder may result in malnutrinaon if
food is spit out or if the person eats
significantly less to prevent thr behavior .

10. • The occurrence of rumination disorder may be
more common in infancy or in people who
have an intellectual disability

11. 4 AVOIDANT /RESTRICTIVE FOOD
DISORDER
• This disorder is characterised by failing to
meet your minimum daily nutrition
requirement because you don’t have an
interest in eating
• You void food with certain sensory
characteristics ,such as colour ,texture ,smell
or taste or you're cornered about the
consequences of eating.

12. • Such as fear of chocking .
• Food is not avoided because of fear of gaining
weight
• The disorder can result in significant weight
loss or failure to gain weight in childhood ,as
well as nutritional deficiency that can cause
health problems

13. • Avoidant /restrictive food intake disorder is
not diagnosed when symptoms are part of
another eating disorder ,such as anorexia ,or
part of a medical problem or other mental
disorder

15. TREATMENT AND DRUGS
• It depends on specific type of eating disorder :
• 1. psychotheraty
• i) cognitive behaviour therapy (cbt)-used
commonly in treating specifically bulimia and
binge-eating disorder .here one is able to
monitor eating and mood, develop a problem-
solving skills and explore healthy ways to cope
with stressful situation ..it also helps to
improve relationship and moods too

16. • ii)Family –based therapy -the family is
involved in making sure that the child or other
family member follows healthy eating patterns
and maintain a healthy weight

17. • 2.hospitalisation -some clinics in treating
people with eating disorder may offer day
programs which may offer intensive
treatment over longer periods of time

18. • 3.medications-medications can not cure
eating disorder ,however certain medications
may help control urges to binge or purge or to
manage excessive preoccupation with food
and diet
• Drugs such as antidepressant and ant-anxiety
medications may help with symptoms of
depression or anxiety .which are frequently
associated with eating disorder
