Required Principles of Effective
Leadership
JJ Resnick
 Leadership development is a process. It takes time
and continuous training. Great leaders are made, not
born. Being an effective leader is more than just
working harder. It is about being an authentic person,
having positive influences on your coworkers and
peers, and helping your team perform as highly as
possible.
 Here are four principles are discussed by JJ Resnick
for effective leadership that each leader should know
to be successful and to help their team blossom under
their guidance.
 Leadership is not about the position you hold in an
organization, rather it is your behavior and the
actions that you take to bring change in the system.
Leaders are the ones who empower others to discover
their greatest potential.
Leadership is an attitude
 Leadership is about taking initiatives, taking
responsibilities and influencing those around you. It's
about how you behave and how you act. After taking
leadership courses, you will get to learn that there are
three key characteristics of leadership-in-action: 1)
They are future-oriented, 2) They are client-focused,
and 3) They are focused on how to help the team
members to succeed.
 JJ Resnick says the character is an important
element of leadership. The formation of our character
(virtues, values, and traits) creates predictability,
dependability, and consistency in our leadership.
The necessity of developing character
 Character fundamentally shapes how you engage the
world around you, what you notice and reinforce,
what you value and choose, how we decide...and the
list goes on. By taking a leadership development
program, you will learn how to develop these
qualities and enhance your leadership abilities.
 You cannot be a great leader without the trust of your
team members and trust is built on a foundation of
empathy and respect for one another.
Build connections
 Having a good relationship with your work associates
is the best way one can lead. Also, always maintain
personal integrity, develop a great culture in the team
and organization, retain a level of compatibility that
motivates, and be a person people can trust. The best
way to enhance your relationship-building skills is by
taking up leadership courses. When you purposefully
work toward building relationships, you'll become an
effective leader.
 People will follow you when you have the capacity to
influence them. Do not tell your team members what
to do, instead, show it to them and lead with your
own example. You are a leader and your actions are
followed by others each and every moment. Even
during hard times, you need to show confidence and
be unwavering in your judgment. When you start to
practice what you preach, you will get astonishing
results.
Influence, influence, influence
 People don't want to be ruled; they want to be
empowered. If you follow these four principles, you
will improve your contribution as a leader and
empower people surrounding you. If you want to
enhance leadership qualities in you, then you enroll
in some leadership courses or in a leadership
development program.
