                                 Future Offshore Wind
Strategic Design, Installation & Maintenance In Deeper Water & Future Offshore

8-10 November 2011 • Maritim Hotel, Bremen, Germany

Dear Colleague,

Foundations currently account for around 20% of the CAPEX of an offshore wind project according to
RenewableUK.* As more wind projects are developed in deeper water, this fraction is likely to increase and if
the industry is to succeed in driving down lifetime cost of energy, there is going to have to be a significant
change in the cost of foundations and their installation in water depths of 30-60m.

That is why Windpower Monthly will be running its inaugural Foundations for Future Offshore Wind Forum
on 8-10 November in Bremen, Germany. One of the biggest challenges for the industry in adopting new
foundations for future sites is the lack of reliable information currently available on how new concepts will fare
in terms of ease of installation, suitability for sites with differing geological conditions and their full lifetime
costs. We are on the cusp of a significant change from the dominant use of monopiles to more complex
structures and are now starting to see trials of some of these next generation designs and investment in serial
manufacturing methods.

On 8-9 November, this forum will give you up-to-the-minute information on the latest thinking in terms of
design, fabrication, environmental challenges, and lifetime cost of installing and maintaining foundations.

I first read Windpower Monthly back when I started in the industry in 1987 and have found it the best source
of reliable information and informed comment on ‘my’ industry over all the many years since. That is why I am
proud to be chairing this event and working with the industry to address costs and risks relating to the key
area of offshore wind foundations. Join me and other foundations experts from companies such as Vattenfall,
RWE Innogy, DONG Energy & Ramboll for what promises to be a key event in the offshore calendar.

Plus, join a select group on 10 November for a high-level briefing, Floating Turbines & Foundations: Future
Development, Structures, Viability & Cost Predictions to find out where we are on the road to floating
designs being a robust, cost-effective option for deep water wind farms.

With a 1st class engineering degree from Cambridge University, I have been working hands-on with wind
industry technology for well over 20 years. I have led design activities within a number of turbine
manufacturers for onshore turbines from a few hundred kW up to offshore turbines as large as any operating
today. Now I advise Governments, trade associations, The Crown Estate, R&D supporting organisations, wind
farm developers, offshore turbine manufacturers, supply chain players large and small and international
investors, covering the fields of market, economics, supply chain and technology.

I look forward to meeting you on 8 November in Bremen.

Best wishes
              Bruce Valpy
              Managing Director

Foundations for Future Offshore Wind Strategic Design, Installation & Maintenance In Deeper Water & Future Offshore 8-10 November 2011 • Maritim Hotel, Bremen, Germany Dear Colleague, Foundations currently account for around 20% of the CAPEX of an offshore wind project according to RenewableUK.* As more wind projects are developed in deeper water, this fraction is likely to increase and if the industry is to succeed in driving down lifetime cost of energy, there is going to have to be a significant change in the cost of foundations and their installation in water depths of 30-60m. That is why Windpower Monthly will be running its inaugural Foundations for Future Offshore Wind Forum on 8-10 November in Bremen, Germany. One of the biggest challenges for the industry in adopting new foundations for future sites is the lack of reliable information currently available on how new concepts will fare in terms of ease of installation, suitability for sites with differing geological conditions and their full lifetime costs. We are on the cusp of a significant change from the dominant use of monopiles to more complex structures and are now starting to see trials of some of these next generation designs and investment in serial manufacturing methods. On 8-9 November, this forum will give you up-to-the-minute information on the latest thinking in terms of design, fabrication, environmental challenges, and lifetime cost of installing and maintaining foundations. I first read Windpower Monthly back when I started in the industry in 1987 and have found it the best source of reliable information and informed comment on ‘my’ industry over all the many years since. That is why I am proud to be chairing this event and working with the industry to address costs and risks relating to the key area of offshore wind foundations. Join me and other foundations experts from companies such as Vattenfall, RWE Innogy, DONG Energy & Ramboll for what promises to be a key event in the offshore calendar. Plus, join a select group on 10 November for a high-level briefing, Floating Turbines & Foundations: Future Development, Structures, Viability & Cost Predictions to find out where we are on the road to floating designs being a robust, cost-effective option for deep water wind farms. With a 1st class engineering degree from Cambridge University, I have been working hands-on with wind industry technology for well over 20 years. I have led design activities within a number of turbine manufacturers for onshore turbines from a few hundred kW up to offshore turbines as large as any operating today. Now I advise Governments, trade associations, The Crown Estate, R&D supporting organisations, wind farm developers, offshore turbine manufacturers, supply chain players large and small and international investors, covering the fields of market, economics, supply chain and technology. I look forward to meeting you on 8 November in Bremen. Best wishes Bruce Valpy Managing Director BVG Associates * Offshore Wind: Forecasts of future costs and benefits, RenewableUK, June 2011 Book Now! Call +44 (0)20 8267 4011
