This document discusses remote sensing of clouds using satellite imagery. It begins by providing background on clouds, including their composition and importance in climate and weather. It then outlines different types of clouds classified by altitude. The document discusses various satellite systems used to observe clouds, including geostationary and polar-orbiting satellites. It explains how visible and infrared imagery from satellites can be used to identify cloud types and properties based on how they reflect or emit radiation. In conclusion, it restates the water cycle role of clouds and their importance in regulating the Earth's temperature.
This document provides a snapshot of issues related to Process Safety Management (PSM), the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), and OSHA in June 2010. It discusses leadership changes at OSHA, enforcement of PSM standards, state plan inspections, VPP participation, contractor responsibilities, and significant enforcement cases and willful citations issued. Key areas of focus for OSHA include PSM inspections, the oil refining industry's commitment to safety, and emphasizing standards around process hazards, emergency response, and management of change procedures.
This document provides an outline for a Bachelor's degree research project (PSM) in Malay. It includes:
1) An introduction to the PSM process and why it emphasizes a systematic and logical method.
2) An overview of the 5 chapters in a PSM project - introduction, literature review, methodology, findings, and discussion/conclusion.
3) Brief descriptions of the content included in each chapter, such as stating the problem, objectives, research questions in chapter 1 and data analysis in chapter 3.
The document provides guidance on writing an effective literature review. It explains that a literature review examines previous research in a particular field to fulfill certain aims or views. It should demonstrate that the author can evaluate other works, identify gaps, and avoid duplicating past mistakes. A literature review is structured like an inverted pyramid and ensures the research question is clearly answered by the end. When writing, the author should critically evaluate sources, link them to the research question, and ensure their perspective is clear. The questions a literature review must answer include assessing the trustworthiness and validity of sources.
1) Foundations can be either shallow or deep, with shallow foundations having a depth less than their width and deep foundations having a depth greater than 3 meters.
2) Before construction, soil must be tested to determine its bearing capacity and strength.
3) Standard penetration tests involve drilling a hole, lowering a split-barrel sampler attached to rods, and recording the blow count as the sampler is driven into the soil in three successive 0.15 meter increments.

ultimate bearing capacity of shallow foundations: special casesMehmet Akin
This document discusses special cases for the ultimate bearing capacity of shallow foundations beyond the standard assumptions. It describes how the bearing capacity is affected by:
1) A rigid layer at shallow depth below the foundation, which restricts failure surface development.
2) Layered soils with different shear strengths, where the failure surface may pass through multiple layers.
3) Proximity to a slope, where the failure surface includes a wedge of soil from the slope.
4) Closely spaced foundations, where failure surfaces can overlap and bearing capacity is reduced due to interference.
Universiti Kuala Lumpur, British Malaysian Institute
The document proposes designing an extension cable that can provide AC power from a solar power system. It involves a solar panel charging a battery via a solar charging controller. An inverter would convert the DC battery power to AC power that can be delivered to devices via the extension cable. The system aims to provide a low-cost way to generate electricity from solar energy for household or industrial use, reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
This document discusses bearing capacity of shallow foundations. It defines bearing capacity as the ability of soil to safely carry pressure without shear failure. Terzaghi's bearing capacity theory from 1943 is described, including his assumptions of three soil zones and equations for calculating ultimate bearing capacity. The effects of foundation shape, inclined loads, soil type (clay vs. sand), and water table are explained. Settlement analysis is also important to determine allowable bearing capacity. An example problem demonstrates calculating the net allowable bearing capacity of a footing in clay.
1. Load-settlement curves for footings on dense sand or stiff clay show a pronounced peak and failure occurs at very small strains, with sudden sinking or tilting and surface heaving of adjoining soil.
2. For medium sand or clay, failure starts at a localized spot and migrates outward gradually, with large vertical strains and small lateral strains. Failure planes are not clearly defined.
3. Failure zones for footings on slopes do not extend above the horizontal plane through the base, and failure occurs when downward and upward pressures are equal.
This document discusses methods for determining soil bearing capacity from standard penetration test (SPT) numbers. It provides Meyerhof and Bowles equations that relate allowable soil bearing capacity (Qa) to SPT numbers (N) and footing parameters. It also gives examples of using the equations to calculate Qa for different soil and footing conditions.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

In an education system, it is understood that assessment is only for the students, but on the other hand, the Assessment of teachers is also an important aspect of the education system that ensures teachers are providing high-quality instruction to students. The assessment process can be used to provide feedback and support for professional development, to inform decisions about teacher retention or promotion, or to evaluate teacher effectiveness for accountability purposes.
How to Fix the Import Error in the Odoo 17Celine George
An import error occurs when a program fails to import a module or library, disrupting its execution. In languages like Python, this issue arises when the specified module cannot be found or accessed, hindering the program's functionality. Resolving import errors is crucial for maintaining smooth software operation and uninterrupted development processes.
