ABSTRACT : In this study, we examine Naver Trend of South Korea (similar to Google Trends), which is a real-time weekly index of the volume of queries that users enter into Naver. We aim to find that these search engine data improves accuracy in forecasting consumption of agri-foods. For a more detail explanation, we classify empirically agri-food items into several specific groups. The results are different by agri-food groups. The agri-food items often used for main or single dishes tend to show significant improvement for both insample estimation and out-of-sample forecast. However, agri-food items used mainly as minor ingredients are not significant. Even if the item is a main or single dish, agri-food items frequently consumed out of the home have no significant relationship. However, agri-food items mainly consumed at home are significant. Meanwhile, the significant difference between common products and brand products are not found. Rather, the more important criteria are macro trends. Agri-food items with gradual growth macro trends or long-term fluctuation have a significant relationship. On the contrary, the steady selling of ramen products or dumpling products is not significant.
Forecasting Agricultural Commodity Price: the Case of onionQUESTJOURNAL
ABSTRACT: In this paper, we develop a simple and practical forecasting model for monthly domestic onion prices based on SVR (Support Vector Regression). The proposed approach utilizes data provided by the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system of the Agricultural Product Processing Center (APC). Until now, the government has paid significant attention to agricultural product price prediction, especially for highly volatile products such as onion and cabbage, in an attempt to stabilize prices. In the past, accurate price prediction was hindered by the lack of necessary data. Recently, useful data has been made available from various sources such as sensors in greenhouses, information systems, and public areas. This makes it possible to predict agricultural product prices more accurately. In this study, we employ SVR to predict monthly onion prices. Two forecasting models are proposed: one that does not utilize APC ERP data and a more detailed one that incorporates the aforementioned data source

Factors Affecting Farmers’ Intention to Use Rhizobium Inoculant Technology in...Premier Publishers
This study was done in the Northern Region of Ghana (Tolon and Savelegu) in the 2017. Primary data on factors that affect farmers’ intention to use rhizobium inoculant technology were collected among 210 respondents using questionnaires. Secondary data was also obtained from SARI, IITA as well as IFDC offices respectively. Theory of Planed Behaviour model was employed to assess factors that affect farmers’ intention to use rhizobium inoculant technology and the data analysed using multiples linear regression, Pearson correlation and frequencies and percentage. Overall, 74.3% of farmers are willing to use rhizobium inoculants for their farming operation in the Northern Region of Ghana. This suggest that farmers would buy rhizobium inoculant if made available to them at the community level. Furthermore, considering the variables in Theory of Planed Behaviour, which influences farmers’ intention to use rhizobium inoculant, promoters of the technology as well as extension had a significant influence on farmers’ decision to use. Though, farmer themselves could not influence their colleague since, there equally lack adequate knowledge on the technology.

Using Mobile Data and Airtime Credit Purchases to Estimate Food Security - Pr...UN Global Pulse
In this study, mobile phone activity data was combined with remote sensing data to understand how people communicated during severe flooding in the Mexican state of Tabasco in 2009, in order to explore ways that mobile data can be used to improve disaster response. By comparing the mobile data with official population census data, the representativeness of the research was validated. The results of the study showed that the patterns of mobile phone activity in affected locations during and after the floods could be used as indicators of (1) flooding impact on infrastructure and population and (2) public awareness of the disaster. These early results demonstrated the value of a public-private partnership on using mobile data to accurately indicate flooding impacts in Tabasco, thus improving early warning and crisis management.
Abstract: Online Food Applications such as Food Panda and Grab Food have become some of the most downloaded applications in the Philippines. They are well known for the convenience they offer and their user-friendly system. The researchers aim to determine the demographic study of customer preference in using online food applications. The study is qualitative and used snowball sampling and online food application users. The researchers have interviewed 20 participants; the results show that participants ages 19-22 years old use online food applications because of their convenience and accessibility. Also, most of them agreed that discounts affect customers' decision-making in ordering. The results indicate that online food applications have increased due to the pandemic compared to the variables used in the analysis. The most critical aspect that has a significant effect on online food applications is convenience and restaurant choice.

Nowcasting Food Prices in Indonesia with Social Media - Project Overview UN Global Pulse
Pulse Lab Jakarta explored how Twitter data can be used to nowcast food prices in Indonesia. A statistical model was developed to produce daily price indicators for four different food commodities: beef, chicken, onion and chili. When the modeled prices were compared with official food prices, the figures were closely correlated, demonstrating that near real-time social media signals can function as proxy for daily food price statistics.

Introduction
There are countless low calorie microwavable food options in the market today that are available for purchase. As people experience a higher income, they can afford a better lifestyle than was previously accessible; therefore, people’s cooking style has changed. Instead of using traditional cooking methods, people now use microwaves to cook. With this microwave usage rise, a rise in microwavable food items has also occurred. With so many diverse products available it is so very easy to find and purchase a healthy choice of microwavable food. A low-calorie or healthy selection of diet choice is one that includes a good source of protein; in addition to containing a minimum of 3 grams of fiber (to satisfy), and also has no more than 600 milligrams of sodium (Zelman, n.d.).
Some of the manufacturer options are: Lean Cuisine and Healthy Choice. Both of them are major competitors in the frozen food market. Lean Cuisine, a part of Stouffer’s (which dates back to the 1920’s) was acquired by Nestlé 1981 and has since then expanded its market in the US, Canada and Australia. Lean Cuisine offers a wide variety of frozen foods and is one of the top choices for low calorie food (Nestle', n.d.).
Healthy Choice, manufactured by ConAgra, is another principal low calorie frozen food supplier. They are Lean Cuisine’s biggest competitor. The market segment is decided by three criteria which are the variables behavioralistic, psychographic and profile (Company history, n.d.) (Market segmentation, n.d.).
Behavioralistic segmentation variables are those that are pursued from product and buying patterns such as volume of purchase, brand loyalty, readiness to buy and frequency (to name a few) and may be judged to be the primary basis. This variable has the advantage of using variables that are intimately related to the product itself; it is a somewhat direct beginning point for market segmentation (Market segmentation, n.d.)
Psychographic segmentation variables are used when purchasing behavior compares with consumer lifestyle or personality. Consumers who hold diverse personality and lifestyle trends also become biased towards particular products. Their economic and social standing determine their choices (Market segmentation, n.d.).
Profiling is not the most important gauge for market segmentation. Upon determining the differences in the markets, it also must be decided what channel through which these are exhibited. Profile variables like socio-economic group or physical locations are extremely essential in choosing the target audience (Market segmentation, n.d.).
In deciding the market structure for the food industry, first one would have to keep in mind their target audience. It is vital to do a strong study of the economic growth of the entire food industry. Additionally, the.

ABSTRACT: Model evaluation is one of the most important aspects of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Many model fit indices have been developed. It is not an exaggeration to say that nearly every publication using the SEM methodology has reported at least one fit index. Fit is the ability of a model to reproduce the data in the variance-covariance matrix form. A good fitting model is one that is reasonably consistent with the data and doesn’t require respecification and also its measurement model is required before estimating paths in a covariance structure model. A baseline model of four constructs together with a combination of none, one, two, three or four additional constructs was constructed with latent variables: educational performance, socioeconomic label, self concept and parental authority using dichotomous digits 0 or 1 for each additional construct. 16 progressively nested models were considered starting with baseline model using the mathematics adult learners data from the modeling sample and employing some small fit indexes which are commonly used (AIC, CAIC, RMR, SRMR, RMSEA, 2 / DF among others) [1] to test the fitness of the model. The measures of model fit based on results from analysis of the covariance structure model are presented.

Recruitment Practices And Staff Performance In Public Universities: A Case St...QUESTJOURNAL
ABSTRACT: Recruitment, as a human resource management function, is one of the activities that impact most critically on the performance of any organization irrespective of its size and location. Public Universities, known to train professionals that exhibit transformative leadership and successfully run blue-chip companies have equally suffered from rampart industrial unrest and human resource malpractices across Kenya. Could it be a unique trend of organizational deviance that could be reflecting absence of a well executed staff recruitment practice? While it is understood and accepted that poor recruitment decisions continue to affect organizational performance and limit goal achievement, knowledge about this aspect in Public Universities remains scanty. The aim of this study was to address this gap by evaluating how recruitment practices affect performance of administrative staff in Public Universities using Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kenya as a case reference. A cross-sectional survey design was employed while sampling strategy was a blend of multiphase, stratified and purposive sampling. A sample size of 124 out of 1150 comprised mainly of administrative staff was used and that a questionnaire was the principal tool of data collection. Results were analyzed using frequency tables, mean, standard deviation and simple linear regression. The study found that a recruitment policy existed at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kenya and that both external and internal recruitment practices were used to recruit employees at the University. However, it was noted that most of the university employees are recruited through media advert, internal advertisement, through transfers and promotions. The results of the regression indicated that recruitment practices are a significant predictor of employee performance, which was explained by 32% of variance and a moderate relationship captured by beta weight value of 0.57. On effectiveness of the recruitment policy, only 30% rated it as effective while 62% were indifferent and 8% rated it ineffective. The study concluded that although a significant relationship between recruitment practices and employee performance existed, it’s effectiveness and therefore positive impact on employee performance depended on employees’ positive perception and rating. It’s recommended that the Universities should avoid biasness in the recruitment process as this will negatively impact on employee performance.
Pesse Na Siri’ Budgetary System: A Historiography Study of Luwu Kingdom in Is...QUESTJOURNAL
ABSTRACT: This study aimed to explore the budgetary system of pesse na siri’ at Luwu kingdom in the Islamic period of 1593 to 1945. Through the historiography method, it showed the base existence of the spiritual sense sensitivity, i.e., pesse (empathy) and siri’ (shame) and Islamic law in budgetary system. In the resources management, it was carried out in four stages, namely planning, implementation, reporting, and evaluation. Operationally, the pesse na siri’ budgetary system on the mobilization mechanism of resources or budget (balanca) through the top down system (i.e., known as balanca pole riwawo) and bottom up system (i.e., known as balanca pole riawa). The top down system was a mobilization resource form from agricultural products of the king’s land (i.e., known in Buginese language as Tanana datue) and the palace logistic. Meanwhile, the bottom up came from the resource offer–i.e., known as makkasiwiyang–mechanism, consisting of makkasiwiyang lili’ (the lower government level), makkasiwiyang ale (personal/individual), and makkasiwiyang reso (labor). One of the Islamic impacts in this system was to direct the budgetary system based on the Shari’a or Islamic law.

Steganographic Technique Using Instant Messaging Conversation DynamicsQUESTJOURNAL
ABSTRACT : Steganography is considered to be not only the science but also the art of hiding secret messages into other innocuous and non-secret media of different types. History of steganography started with the history of civilization and algorithms of data hiding have been constantly developed with the rise of mankind's knowledge. Some of steganographic algorithms are so close connected to the use of digital media, computers and information technology, that those algorithms do not have analogy in non-digital world. It is possible to see the use of hard disk drives (HDD), solid state discs (SSD) and file systems for the purpose of steganography, or steganography in TCP/IP networks as the example. In this paper we are concentrating on such algorithm and we are examining the possibility of the use of dynamics of conversation realized with the use of instant messaging services, which are very popular standalone services or are part of widely used social networks like Facebook. The paper discusses the possibility of hidden message encoding by the use of different parameters of conversation dynamics and introduces new algorithm and its program implementation. The last part of the paper summarizes results of its experimental use.

Block Hybrid Method for the Solution of General Second Order Ordinary Differe...QUESTJOURNAL
ABSTRACT: We consider the construction of block hybrid method for the solution of general second order ODEs. Derivation of the method was based on the use of hermite polynomial as basis function. The main method and its additional equations are obtained from the same continuous formulation via interpolation and collocation procedures. The method is then applied in block form as simultaneous numerical integrator, this approach eliminates requirement for starting values, and it also reduces computational effort. The stability properties of the method is discussed and the stability region shown. Two numerical experiments were given to illustrate the accuracy and efficiency of the new method.

Exploring the Effectiveness of the Arabic LanguageTeaching Methods in Indones...QUESTJOURNAL
ABSTRACT: The aim of this research work is to identify the effectiveness of the Arabic language teaching methods in Indonesia(National University of Malang for Sample)in terms of making use of Arabic as a medium of communication among the students in the light of the modern approaches in teaching and learning of Arabic language. This research is methodologically characterized as a descriptive, analytical, evaluative and field research work. In order to arrive at the purpose of this study, a questionnaire has been designed and carried out on a specimen from the teachers of the concerned university. Eventually, the study has arrived into a finding that the method used in the university is the Eclectic Method (i.e. Selective Method), except that translation is utilized extensively with it, and it might influentially cause the depreciation of the communication skill of the students, and the major intermediary language for the Arabic language teaching is the Indonesian language. However, its uncontrolled over-usage in the Arabic language teaching procedure may negatively cause the weakness of the students in the listening and speaking skills, since they could not get enough opportunity to practice them during language learning, in addition to the fact that the teachers might be employed as Arabic language teachers on the basis of their high conversance with the grammatical rules of Arabic language and not on their skills in the Arabic language communication medium.

ABSTRACT: The purpose of Larkin as literary artist was to convey his ultimate message that man has to transcend the gross environment for the attainment for final goal. His poem opens with important question which prompt us to scrutinize ourselves. According to Philip Larkin “when you come to talk about once duty as writer then ones can say that his duty is to write for harmony”. In this paper there an urge in Larkin’s poem to attain transcendental knowledge by which everything is known. The meaningful change in environment through literature result from the development of qualities and attitude that foster constructive pattern of human interaction through literature. In an age of highly industrialized and mechanized structure of our society where we have 'given our hearts away a sordid boon' and where all spiritual values have been thrown overboard, the relevance of selecting this topic "Spiritual Quest in Philip Larkin" becomes important. In Larkin's poetry there is invariably, an element of spiritual crises, a note of subsequent struggle to step out of it. This inner conflict to proceed forward in the path of Divine realization lends magnificence to his poetic and spiritual personality.
The Influence of Religiosity on Marital Satisfaction and Stability AmongChris...QUESTJOURNAL
ABSTRACT: Various studies indicate that religious couples are more likely to enjoy stable and happy marriages. They are also less likely to experience conflict and violence, or to divorce perhaps because religion offers couples theologically grounded guidelines on how to handle marital conflicts when they arise. The present qualitative study was conducted using face to face interviews with nine participants in Kenya who had been identified as practicing Christians. The aim of the study was to explore how religiosity impacted the participant’s marital satisfaction. Results indicated that specific attributes related to religiosity like individual and partner prayer, reading the Bible, church attendance, impacted participants and their spouses lives positively and in turn their experiences in marriage. Engaging in religious practices was reported by the participants as eliciting qualities like perseverance, forgiveness and humility which in turn assisted them in keeping their marriages stable and thus resulting in marital satisfaction

Down the Purgatory of Memories:The Pain of Remembering in M alayalam Naxal Ci...QUESTJOURNAL
ABSTRACT:Keralam, the southern most state in India is known for its cinema and politics. It is in Kerala that Communist Party came to power through Parliamentary election process for the first time in history. The political consciousness nurtured by the Communist movement found its reflections in Malayalam (language being spoken by the people of Keralam) Cinema as well. As a result films produced during the formative years of Malayalam Cinema were characterized by their political content. Having said this it should also be added that since those films are produced within the dominant production system with a view to garner profit they fail to politically stimulate the audience. But the situation had been changed after the Naxalite (radical left movement ideologically inclined to Maoism) uprising in 1969 during which both the feudal/bourgeois value orientations and the alleged degeneration of the Communist Party were challenged by the educated radical youths who fought for an immediate revolution. The state promptly intervened and contained Naxalite uprising with an iron fist. The repressive machinery of the state intervened whenever instances of resistance occurred. The Emergency declared in 1975 exposed the inhuman face of government that unleashed series of tortures against its citizens. The post -1980 political films, otherwise called as Naxalite films, try to recapture the tormenting experience of being political during the time of such mass oppression. Those movies resort to memory to expose the stark experience of the past.Remembering is a way of representing the past with all its nuances as it situates the remembering subject at close proximity with the past. At the same time Naxalite movies explored the possibility of forgetting also to unveil the subtle complexities of individual's relationship with the past. Here I consider two Malayalam films-AmmaAriyan(1986) directed by John Abraham and Margam (2003) directed by Rajeev Vijayaraghavan- to investigate how memory and oblivion are meticulously used by the filmic narratives to politicize a society already under the grip of political amnesia.
Professional Competences: An Integrative Approach for Defining The Training C...QUESTJOURNAL
ABSTRACT: This paper offers an integrative proposal for Business Administrationcurricular programs. For that purpose, we have carried out a survey with teachers from upper Business Administration courses so as to select a group of key competences for the contemporary Administrator, which has allowed us to elaborate an integrative proposal of curricular program for the Business Administration scholars in Brazil. As a qualitative research, it consists of a multiple case study with empirical approach and a triangular analysis based on Moraes (2014).Its main objective has been to analyze the curricular programs from five higher education institutions in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and two other foreign institutions in South America. At first, we have asked ourselves the following question: How to adapt the Business Administration curricular program to the contemporary needs as far as the vocational training competences of Administrators are concerned? In order to answer it, we have analyzed the National Curriculum Guidelines (DCN) and the Political-Educational Projects of Business Administration Courses (PPC/CSA). After that, we have compared the Curricular Components (CC) of the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) under analysis. After performing the triangular textual analysis of the DCN, PPC/CSA and CC of all HEIs under study, we have carried out a survey with 35 teachers from Business Administration upper courses through a computerized online questionnaire. We have sent a Survey Monkey link for a total of 40 teachers, however, only 35 answered it (87.5%); we have considered 100% valid answers. Previously, based on the doctrine of competences and curriculum according to the most renowned authors – suchas Vygostsky, Freire, Sacristán, Piaget, Saviani, Bloom, Libâneo (curriculum); Fleury & Fleury, Zarifian, Perrenoud, Lisboa (competences), among others – wehave concluded that implementing the integrative proposal will providemore well-prepared graduates from the Business Administration course right to the competitive and globalized labor market.

2. Forecasting Agri-food Consumption Using Web Search Engine Indices

II. PREVIOUS RESEARCH
Forecasting is a long-standing research topic in the agri-food sector. Notably, forecasting studies on
commodity price have been steadily conducted. The many studies of them focus on various forecasting methods
(Allen, 1994). Several studies have used AIDS model reflecting demand system (Kastens&Brester, 1996; Sang
&Tonsor, 2015). Meanwhile, most forecasting studies have adopted time series model such as ARIMA,
GARCH, and VAR considering lagged endogenous variables (Xu &Turman, 2015; Guney, 2015). However, it
is necessary to explore significant variables to enhance prediction model even if to improve prediction accuracy
through developing a methodology is important.
Presently, there are several sources of data on real-time economic activity available from private sector
companies such as Google, MasterCard, Federal Express, UPS, and Intuit (Choi & Varian, 2012). Many
forecasting studies with significant results have used search engine data as an important indicator to improve
prediction accuracy. Yahoo’s search query predicted stock market trade volume (Preis et al., 2013). Google
Trends data forecasted the number of movie viewers (Hand & Judge, 2011), which is used as an important
predictor and indicator of monthly consumption (Vosen& Schmidt, 2011; Kholodilin et al., 2010). In the
commodity markets, automobile purchases (Choi & Varian, 2012; Carrière-Swallow &Labbé, 2013) and house
prices (Wu &Brynjolfsson, 2014) can be explained by Google Trends data. However, there are few studies on
forecasting using Google Trends data in the agri-food and agribusiness sectors.
III. INDENTATIONS AND EQUATIONS
We cannot claim that keyword search behavior has a correlation with agri-food consumption because
there are no empirical studies which can explain the relationship between them. Thus, it is not appropriate to
investigate the correlation between two variables on the assumption that all agri-food product consumption is
equally related with keyword search behavior. In this study, we classify agri-food products into several groups
based on four arbitrary measures. In order to derive more meaningful results, the four measures are defined as
follows, though these classification measures are not based on the theoretical background.
Web portal services such as Google.com provide the requested information through the search engine.
Also, they can link portal users with online shopping malls and facilitate actual purchases in the shopping mall.
The search behavior engaged in to get information on agri-food products can be classified into two categories.
The first category is the search behavior to collect the information on ingredients or effects of specific agri-food
products. The second category is the search for recipes by internet users to do the cooking for themselves.
Plenty of recipe information is provided through users’ blogs as well as the knowledge sharing service
of the web portal. In the digital age, printed recipes have rapidly been substituted by online recipe information
(Teng et al., 2012). Consequently, recipe information on main dishes is more likely to be searched than recipes
related to side dishes because main dishes are more complicated to cook than side dishes. Therefore, main
dishes are expected to have a more significant relationship with the amount of keyword searches than side
dishes or ingredients. In this context, we define the first agri-food classification measure as whether the search is
for main dishes or not.
Most agri-food products purchased in grocery shops, except for gifts, are consumed by households,
whereas agri-foods consumed outside of the household are purchased in quantity by restaurants. Thus, agri-food
products used for frequently cooked dishes in households are more related with web search behavior than those
consumed in restaurants. Thus, we define the second classification measure as whether to dine out or in.
Third, we consider agri-food products with increasing or decreasing trends as a classification measure.
With the recent well-being trends, consumption of healthy foods such as chicken breasts and nut products is
increasing steadily. Also newly launched agri-food products generally attract attention from consumers. These
kinds of agri-foods are likely to be searched in web portal services. Therefore, we can expect that agri-food
products with macro trends have a significant relationship with keyword searching volume in a portal service.
The last classification measure is defined as whether the product names are a brand or not. Food
manufacture companies such as Sunkist or Delmont want to predict consumption of their own brand products in
order to make informed decisions for future management. However, agri-food brands do not require as much
information to evaluate their qualities unlike brands of search goods such as DVDs, smartphones, and laptop
computers, which probably do not have a meaningful association with keyword search volume in portal
services. On the other hand, in the case of the recent popular agri-food brands, many consumers are likely to

frequently search for the product in portal services as mentioned earlier. Therefore, keyword searching volume
may influence actual consumption differently according to the characteristics of the agri-food brand. Table 1
shows the list of agri-food products selected by group based on the four measures. We investigate the
correlation between the keyword search volume and actual consumption of agri-food products by each group.
The expected correlation results are suggested in Table 1.

IV. DATA AND PREDICTION MODEL
Consumption data is collected from a panel survey of housewives from the Rural Development
Administration in South Korea. The data includes five years of daily household food consumption records based
on receipt from December 2009 through November 2014. We finally obtained 3.6 million purchase data of 732
panels continuously sustained during five years. The data set for the estimation is processed weekly based on the
amount of consumption by targeted agri-food items for 261 weeks.
For search data, we used the relative weekly time series search volume index displayed on the Naver
Trends website (http://trend.naver.com/) for each of the products. Naver, Korea’s largest portal site with a
70~80% market share, has provided keyword search volume trend services since 2007.
The prediction model of this study is based on the AR(1) and seasonal AR(1) model of Choi and
Varian (2012). The baseline model (1) only consists of the consumption of t period and lagged consumption of
t-1 period. And the baseline seasonal model (2) has an additional AR term (lagged consumption of the t-52
period). The test model (3) and the test seasonal model (4) have an additional predictor as a keyword volume
index of t period.

It was not certain whether the agri-food products tested in this study had a seasonal characteristic or
not. Thus, the model selection between the basic model and the seasonal model is decided by the estimation
results of the baseline seasonal mode (2). If the coefficient of the seasonal AR variable of the target agri-food
product is significant, then that product can be considered to have a seasonal characteristic. And, we regard that
seasonal model as more appropriate to out-of-sample forecasting as well as in-sample estimation.
For the evaluation of prediction models, we first examine that the test model is a significantly improved
in-sample fit, and we next investigate whether the trends variables improve out-of-sample forecasting by the
rolling window method, which is consistent with the method of Choi and Varian (2012). The rolling window

forecast is to estimate the model using the data for periods k through t - 1 and then forecast y_t using y_(t-1),
y_(t-12), and the contemporaneous values of the keyword search volume variables as predictors (Choi & Varian,
2012). In data processing, a 3-week moving average is used for the model estimation in order to smooth the
short-term fluctuation of the measured value.
The model estimation and prediction performance evaluation is achieved by the agri-food items when
considering the classified groups. The first classification measure is whether the agri-food item is a main (or
single) dish or minor ingredients of a main dish. The second measure is whether the agri-food item is consumed
at home or dining out. The third measure is whether the agri-food item has macro sales trends or no trends. The
fourth measure is whether the agri-food item is a common product or brand product.
V. RESULTS
The results of the test model of the in-sample estimation and out-of-sample forecasting are summarized
in Table 2-5. The results are different by agri-food groups. The agri-food items often used for main or single
dishes including chicken, sweet pumpkin, and shiitake mushroom tend to show positive influences as a predictor
for both in-sample estimations and out-of-sample forecasts. However, sweet potato does not show meaningful
results in either case, and sweet pumpkin is only significant in in-sample estimations. These unexpected results
may be caused by the variety in agri-food dishes. In Korean dishes, sweet potato and sweet pumpkin are not
used in various kinds of dishes due to their sweet taste; thus we can assume agri-food consumers do not
frequently use web portal services for information searches in the case of dishes cooked by those materials.
Whereas, most agri-food products used mainly as minor ingredients such as carrot, cucumber, canned
tuna, and enoki mushroom do not show a significant correlation with keyword search volume. Also there is
generally no improvement in the prediction error in out-of–sample forecasting. In the case of the potato,
prediction performance is improved; however, the amount of improvement is not large. Therefore, we can
consider that keyword search volume of agri-food products used for a main dish’s major ingredients can be a
meaningful predictor for the prediction of the consumption.

Table 3 shows the results of the dine-out and dine-in groups. Even if the product is a main dish or
ingredient, agri-food products frequently consumed out of the home such as roasted pork belly, fried chicken,
and dumpling have no significant relationship. Meanwhile, agri-food items mainly consumed at home such as
most fruits except strawberry are significantly related with keyword search volume; however, the improvement
in prediction performance in the out-of-sample forecast is not consistent among in-group products. From the
time series plot, we can find that the consumption amount of the products such as apple, tangerine, and
strawberry has a relatively larger seasonal fluctuation compared with other fruit products. We guess that this
characteristic of the product may attenuate the effect of the keyword search volume on the prediction model.

The most consistent results are identified in the measure related with macro trends. Agri-food products
with gradual growth macro trends or those with long-term fluctuations have a significant relationship as shown
in Table 4. The recent popular products such as healthy food such as chicken breast and nut products, and most
popular newly released instant rice products and ramen products have growing trends in the time period of our
data. The time series plot shows that the consumption trends have a similar pattern with keyword search volume,
which can be interpreted that the early consumer interest toward these products is reflected in web search
behavior. On the contrary, the most popular steady selling ramen products and dumpling products are not
significant in either the in-sample estimation or out-of-sample forecasting, which means that already well-
known products are not searched frequently in web portal services in proportion with the consumed amount in
grocery shops.

Finally, we tested the correlation between the actual consumption and keyword search volume of major
agri-food brands in Korea. Sunkist, Delmont, and Zespri are the most famous fruit brands. Kyeong-gi rice is the
leading rice product brand, and Harim chicken is the leading chicken product brand in Korea. Table 5 reports
mixed results by each brand. Brands, except Sunkist and Harim, with no macro trends show no correlation
between consumption and keyword search, whereas the consumption amount of Sunkist with gentle decreasing
trends and Harim with long-term fluctuations has a significant relationship with keyword search volume. These
are consistent with the results of the macro group agri-food products. In other words, the most important factor
is whether the consumption amount has macro trends or not in the cases of agri-food brands too.

VI. COUNCLUSION
Although the keyword search volume data from Naver Trends for all of the agri-food items do not
improve the performance of consumption forecasting, the search engine data is correlated with actual
consumption in several agri-food groups such as the ingredients of main dishes, agri-foods mainly consumed at
home, and products with macro consumption trends. In the cases of the first and second groups, we can identify
that real time data from search behavior on agri-foods consumption in households is directly linked with actual
consumption amounts. As well, the results show that recent interest in food trends or newly launched products
can synchronize with actual agri-food consumption as shown in the results of the third group. Therefore, the
search engine data of agri-foods with these characteristics can be considered as an important predictor in agri-
food consumption forecasting research. In other cases, it is expected that we can utilize the keyword search
volume as the explanatory variable to substitute for the consumption amount data if it is difficult to collect
actual consumption data on agri-food products.
This study addresses the lack of research on consumer internet search activity data in the agri-food
sector. Also we identify the possibility of using search engine data to predict more accurate actual consumption.
Although this study has many limitations such as a weak theoretical background, sample selection problems,
and a non-rigorous methodology, we expect to extend many further relevant studies, and to help agri-food
producers and distributors when they forecast the sales of their agri-products.
