This study examined the relationship between burnout, neuroticism, empathy, and social/organizational support among health professionals. It found that higher levels of perceived organizational support predicted lower burnout. Empathic concern was also negatively associated with burnout. The results provided mixed evidence for the role of neuroticism and social support in burnout. Moderation analyses found that social support was more beneficial for those low in empathic concern, and organizational support predicted less exhaustion for those high in fantasy. However, the study had a small sample size and was limited to a one-time survey.
