Evaluación de la SALUD COLECTIVA SOCIO-AMBIENTAL de Monte Maíz Por expresa solicitud del Municipio de Monte Maíz y de vecinos de la Red de Prevención de Monte Maíz, se realizó una evaluación de la situación sanitaria ambiental del pueblo entre los días 14 y 18 de octubre de 2014. La preocupación de los pobladores radicaba en el aparente aumento del número de personas afectadas por enfermedades graves como cánceres y colagenopatías ocurridas en los últimos años. Se llevó adelante un proceso programado de recolección de datos con el cual poder construir un diagnostico del estado de Salud Colectivo Ambiental del pueblo. Con médicos y estudiantes de Medicina de la UNC se realizó un censo epidemiológico. Geógrafos y estudiantes de geografía de la UNC realizaron un análisis del entorno socio-ambiental y un equipo de químicos de la UNLP concretaron dosajes de contaminantes de suelo, aire y agua del lugar y, subsidiariamente, de sangre de un grupo de voluntarios, vecinos del lugar. Se recabaron consentimientos informados en todas y cada una de las acciones.
Se logró información del 62% de la población, la cual presentó un alto nivel de escolaridad, baja desocupación y buena cobertura social. Se destacaron dos conjuntos de familias, uno vinculada a las industrias metalúrgicas del lugar (24% de la población analizada) y otro a la actividad agrícola (18,4%). SIGUE..
