Food Combining
Food combining refers to the combination of foods that are compatible with each
other in terms of digestive chemistry. Food combining is a basic component of
optimal nutrition because it allows the body to digest and utilize the nutrients in
our foods to their fullest extent.
Foods require different digestion. Mixing the wrong foods can lead to stomach
upset, gas, bloating, and other digestive ails.
Food combination is based on the theory that easy digestion is generated by
combining foods that have the same digestion time. Also, different foods need
different digestive enzymes to digest the food. Some acid based enzymes and
some alkaline based enzymes are needed to digest food properly. However, if
both come into contact at the same time, they neutralize each other and stop
digestion.
DON’TS OF FOOD COMBINING
 Carbohydrate foods and acid foods should not be eaten at the
same meal. Bread, rice, and potatoes should not be taken with lemons,
pineapples, tomatoes, or any other sour fruits. Fruit acids prevent
carbohydrate digestion and cause fermentation.
 Do not eat two concentrated proteins together. Avoid meat and
eggs, cheese and eggs, cheese and nuts, and nuts and meat combinations.
Each protein requires different digestive juices and different times for
digestion.
 Acid fruits and proteins should not be eaten at the same time.
Oranges, lemons and pineapples should not be eaten with meat, eggs, etc.
 Do not eat concentrated protein and carbohydrates at the same
meal. Nuts, meat, eggs, cheese with potatoes, as well as bread and cereals
should be avoided.
 Starch and sugars should not be combined. Honey and other
sweeteners don’t mix with cereals and potatoes. Sugar with cereal ferments
the food in the digestive tract.
 Melons cannot be combined with any other foods. This is because
melons decompose very easily.
 Avoid desserts, especially after meals. Desserts eaten after meals
digest and, ultimately, ferment because bacteria turn them into alcohols and
acetic acid.
 Drink water only before meals. Drinking water during meals or soon
after meals will dilute the digestive juices.
 Fats and oils cannot be combined with proteins.

Food combining

  • 1. Food Combining Food combining refers to the combination of foods that are compatible with each other in terms of digestive chemistry. Food combining is a basic component of optimal nutrition because it allows the body to digest and utilize the nutrients in our foods to their fullest extent. Foods require different digestion. Mixing the wrong foods can lead to stomach upset, gas, bloating, and other digestive ails. Food combination is based on the theory that easy digestion is generated by combining foods that have the same digestion time. Also, different foods need different digestive enzymes to digest the food. Some acid based enzymes and some alkaline based enzymes are needed to digest food properly. However, if both come into contact at the same time, they neutralize each other and stop digestion. DON’TS OF FOOD COMBINING  Carbohydrate foods and acid foods should not be eaten at the same meal. Bread, rice, and potatoes should not be taken with lemons, pineapples, tomatoes, or any other sour fruits. Fruit acids prevent carbohydrate digestion and cause fermentation.  Do not eat two concentrated proteins together. Avoid meat and eggs, cheese and eggs, cheese and nuts, and nuts and meat combinations. Each protein requires different digestive juices and different times for digestion.
  • 2.  Acid fruits and proteins should not be eaten at the same time. Oranges, lemons and pineapples should not be eaten with meat, eggs, etc.  Do not eat concentrated protein and carbohydrates at the same meal. Nuts, meat, eggs, cheese with potatoes, as well as bread and cereals should be avoided.  Starch and sugars should not be combined. Honey and other sweeteners don’t mix with cereals and potatoes. Sugar with cereal ferments the food in the digestive tract.  Melons cannot be combined with any other foods. This is because melons decompose very easily.  Avoid desserts, especially after meals. Desserts eaten after meals digest and, ultimately, ferment because bacteria turn them into alcohols and acetic acid.  Drink water only before meals. Drinking water during meals or soon after meals will dilute the digestive juices.  Fats and oils cannot be combined with proteins.
