Nutritional imbalance
= Wrong selection
= Wrong way in consumption
             ACTUAL
           CONSUMPTION
             PYRAMID
1. Skip your breakfast
• It is recommended to obtain 30%
of total daily calorie intake from
breakfast.
• It is recommended to obtain at
least 25% of total daily vitamin and
minerals intake from breakfast.
• Short term impact:
    • affects cognitive performance and
    gastrointestinal function

• Long term impact:
    • causes obesity, premature aging
    and chronic degenerative diseases
2. Too hot or too cold
        • Human gastrointestinal system
        is kept at temperature about
        36o C.
        • Cold water stimulates
        constrictions at throat, stomach,
        intestine and blood vessels.
        • Indirectly giving an impact on
        digestive function.
        • Hot temperature induces
        cellular morphology changes.
3. Overfed
• The size of stomach is
about 45ml at rest; able
to store food up to 1L, or
maximum 2-3L.
• Induces gastrointestinal
problems and chronic
degenerative diseases.
4. No rice but just dishes

• Compare to mid 20th century:
    • fat intake has increased 350%
    • protein intake has increased 60%
    • starch intake has reduced 40%

• It is recommended to obtain 50%-60%
of total daily calorie intake from starchy
food.
5. Cook your vege
     • How we process the
     vege determines its
     nutritional values.
     • Most of the vitamins
     are destroyed when
     cooking temperature
     reaching 200o C.
• None of natural food contains
 complete nutrition.
 • Too much of something good
 will become bad.

6. Over obsess towards certain food selection
7. More spicy more “shiok”
• Contains abundant source of vitamin C and vitamin B, and capsaicin.
• Stimulates mucous secretion, blood circulation within gastrointestinal
system, and its motility.
• Exceeding tolerance level creates digestive problem e.g.
stomachache, diarrhea, diverticula etc.
8. Luxurious dinner
• It is recommended not more than 30% of total daily calorie intake
from dinner.
• Insulin level is highest during evening time; metabolism rate is slow.
• Eat early as possible, as little as possible.
• It is recommended not to consume
more than 500ppm caffeine, almost
equivalent to 50g ordinary coffee
powder.
• Caffeine metabolism usually take
about 2 hours, and may be 4-5 hours
for those who have poor digestion.
• Neuro-stimulating in characteristic,
impairs minerals absorption, and
induces gastric juice secretion.

9. Coffee indulgence after meal
• Fruits contain
               fructose and
               abundant fiber.
               •The best time to eat
fruits is first thing in the
               morning after a glass
               of water.
               •Eating fruits right after
a meal is not a great
idea, as it may not be
               digested properly. The
               nutrients may not be
               absorbed properly
               either.

Editor's Notes

  1. Lastly, we need to add a good quality nutritional supplement as a life-long habit. We mentioned earlier that the body requires the basic building blocks that are provide by food. These include macro-nutrients like carbohydrates, protein and fat. It also includes micro nutrients like vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Today, the higher nutrient requirements because of our lifestyle, and the simultaneous lower nutrient value in food makes supplementation prudent. While our standard of living has gone up, and fewer people are going hungry, we cannot ascertain the amount of nutrients in our food. Many people are overfed but undernourished.
  2. USANA has been voted the Best Dietary Supplement company in Utah’s “Best of State” award. This shows you the recognition accorded to USANA by the business community in Utah State – where close to 100 nutritional supplements manufacturers are based. Let me introduce you to the products you can buy in USANA Singapore. USANA’s nutritional system consists of Essentials as the basic foundation. The other products are called Optimizers – i.e., you add them to Essentials to “customise” the nutrition to your needs. The Optimizers are colour-coded, so that those with purple labels contain nutrients that are good for cardiovascular health, those with orange labels support health cellular metabolism, etc.
