4. Flower villages are those towns and
cities which outstand for their real
action, being long-lasting conscions
in terms of landscaping, urban
scenery and improvement of the
quality of life of its inhabitants
There are currently 119
distinguished municipalities in
Catalonia as in Vila Florida in
recognition of their work on the
improvement of the urban space.

5. The aspects to be valued in each municipality are the plants and landscape heritage: the
relationship between the green space and the number of inhabitants, the relationship
between the resources assigned to maintenance, the green areas and gardens, floral
diversity and the functionality of the green places.

6. The project also takes into account the respect for the
environment and sustainability through variables such as water
management, pest control programs and diseases, cleaning and
waste management, or quality of urban furniture.

7. On the other hand, the jury takes into account a third package of items related to
the social use and the synergies with the tourism activity, such as the
development of a promotional strategy linked to the green areas, the promotion
of distinctive Villa Florida and the Organization of events related to the gardens
and plants

8. A strategic city from the time of the Romans, Martorell has
succeeded in turning the problems into opportunities to have a
nice village with strolls and quiet neighborhoods. The old N-II
has divided the town and has been transformed into an
integrated walkway, where green areas play a fundamental
role. The house of Can Serra stands out decorating the green
spaces of the village with flowers and plants and offering
gardening as an activity carried out by disabled people.

9. For the second consecutive year, the Confederation of Ornamental
Horticulture of Catalonia (COHC) has characterized Martorell with three
honor flowers for the improvement of the urban green space. The CHOC has
highlighted more than 80,000 flowers which beautify the squares and streets
of Martorell.

10. Nowadays it has about 32 workers with
intellectual disability and take part in
therapeutic employment activities to favour
the acquisition and the maintenance of work
habits. In Can Serra plants and flowers grow .
After that, they are planted on the public
roads and squares of Martorell. This fact has
been thanks to the Occupational Center of
Can Serra.

13. The main goal of this project is to save money by buying
small flowery plants in specialized factories that distribute
this type of little plants.
