An eye vision test was conducted at SCUGVHSS school in Pattanakad for all students from the morning till evening. The test was sent by the health department and the school nurse Mrs. Jyothi assisted. Students were asked to wear an autorefractor and view an illuminated eyetest chart from 3 meters away. A Students Dairy Club was started in Pattanakad block panchayath with 20 student members. This week brought many exciting events for the school. Several students achieved prizes in various competitions, including first place in Malayalam recitation. The school was saddened by the transfer of the headmistress but celebrated her accomplishments. New teachers joined for physical education and counseling, and the Gandhi club was inaugurated. Plans were announced for upcoming exams.
January 4th week at school
Students at SCU Govt VHSS school participated in a common academic pledge on January 23rd led by Advocates A.M Sherif and N.B. Shibu. A painting competition was held where Krishnarag received an award from the school headmaster. Devananda and arya sree were also congratulated at the assembly. The 10th standard classroom was being renovated so classes were moved to the stage. Teachers Bibby miss and sangeetha miss observed classes on the 25th and provided further instruction. The Gandhi club practiced their drama for a competition on the 28th and received first prize with guidance from their daily teacher.
January second week at school
This week was eventful with schedule changes due to exams. Students had to attend free periods as teachers were busy. There was a student strike on Tuesday which led to early dismissal. Students distributed milk and conducted an awareness class on road safety with the help of officials. They also hosted a school induction program and taught yoga to younger students. Various guests visited the school for different activities and formalities.
Fourth week at school
The fourth week at school included an Aids Day rally where the headmistress delivered a speech on self-awareness. Floor maintenance was performed and many students came for practice for an upcoming arts festival, especially for a skit. The mid-term exam also began during this week and students were given exam duty for all five days.
February 1st week
The 10th standard exam finished on Saturday. There was a discussion about a teacher's casual leave request. As part of their teaching practice ending, students provided evening snacks and tea to the staff. Two classrooms were being renovated so those students moved to the auditorium and another classroom, requiring two classes to combine. Students from grades 8 and 9 went on a one day tour. It was the last week of school for the students, so they said goodbye to the school, teachers, staff and students as they ended their teaching practice.
Awareness class on adolescent issues
The awareness class for 9th grade students covered important adolescent issues like sexual harassment, the impact of media, and drug abuse. The class was conducted by an excise trainer as part of a teacher education curriculum to develop critical thinking in students through discussion of their social realities. The class took place on January 13, 2017 from 2-4pm in the smart classroom at SCUGVHSS Patanakad school.

SRM STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN SWACHH BAHARAT SUMMER INTERNSHIP(SBSI-2019) PROGRAMME ON RURAL COMMUNITY SERVICE
The “Internship programme on rural community service for University/College students” for the year 2019 is implemented under the aegis Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) by Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, Government of Tamil Nadu. A team of enthusiastic students from SRM College of Nursing, Department of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy actively participated in this internship contributing over 60 hours of their time. The internship commenced with an inaugural session at the Kancheepuram District Collectorate. The students were oriented to the objectives of the internship and were provided a “Handbook on Sanitation’’ and other guidelines. They organised and conducted swachata-related activities in Government schools and community at Appur, Kolathur, Reddipalayam, Chettipunyam and Kondamangalam villages at Kattankulathur block in Kancheepuram district.
They focussed their activities on promotion of safe sanitation practices, waste segregation and disposal, personal hygiene, toilet usage, sustainable water management practices through door-to-door visits, awareness rally and street plays. Antenatal mothers and children were educated about malnutrition, worm infestation, stunting and ill-effects of poor sanitation on their health.The interns participated in mass cleaning, developing compost pit, rainwater harvesting pits and tree plantation activities.
The interns also conducted swachhata-themed competitions in Government Schools and distributed prizes for students. Public walls were beautified with painting and messages about sanitation and hygiene. The participating teams will present their work at Kancheepuram District Collectorate and will be awarded participation certificates.

- FYBCA students surveyed waste workers and mapped biodiversity, presenting their work to an environmental planner.
- Selected students worked on a mobile application project to map local biodiversity like birds and trees.
The committee also organized visits for students to environmental events and festivals to increase awareness.

Sevalaya's students achieved 100% pass rates in Standard 10 and 12 exams, with many students scoring over 90%, reflecting the dedicated work of the school's teachers in helping underprivileged children succeed despite challenges. A donor recently gifted the school a car to transport elderly residents to the hospital more comfortably. Sevalaya has completed installing a solar power system to make the campus fully energy self-sufficient and reduce environmental impact.
Presentation on inclusive education
City Montessori School in Mahanagar has implemented an inclusive education model where students with special needs spend most of their time learning with non-disabled students. The school has incorporated about 30 disabled students into their mainstream education, providing them support through special classes and resources like computers. An event called Innerscape is organized annually for mentally, physically, and visually challenged children from around the world to participate in activities together and feel special.
