As Shirley Manson, singer/songwriter, once said, "I was a redhead and a middle child; both can
make you feel excluded. It's like fighting to be included, in the swim of things. After a while you
start to develop a bit of a victim mentality, which isn't great for a happy life." Despite being an only
child, this book taught me something about what it feels like to be a middle child, and all of the
responsibilities they are forced to take on. First Impressions is a short, good book that teaches a
valuable life lesson that holds true even for today's teenager: Living with siblings isn't always easy,
and not everyone always gets a 'happily ever after'.
In First Impressions, the author uses conflict to teach that living in a big family isn't always easy, and
not everyone always gets a happy ending. For example, on page 3, after Alice and her mother have
this interaction one evening – "'Alice, come and set the table!' Yelled my mom. 'I'm studying. Why

not be brainwashed into believing things. It was ok to believe anything you wanted; just as long as

apprehension or fear at the prospect of encountering that person again. As the relationship
continues it is possible to change your opinion of the person, but that first impression is nearly

The Jewish Holocaust is a big part of the Second World War. Humain rights were violated and an
entire population exterminated because some people forced their prejudices onto the entire

none of this cruelty would have happened if we had treated eachother as equals. Our video explains

In the first situation with John, he was as an extrovert. I noticed he interacted with numerous
people during his trip to purchase stationary. In analyzing my first impression of John, I believe
he was in a good mood and truly enjoyed his day. John chose to speak with an acquaintance in the
store, while he patiently waited for the clerk to become available. I perceive him as being
someone who would be an engaging team member and positive representative of a company. In
the second situation with John, he was described as an introvert. Upon leaving the office, he
chose to forego the opportunity of talking with a girl he had interest in the night prior. My
impression of introverted John is that he is either not a very happy person or he had a terrible
day at work which left him in an antisocial mood. Furthermore, unless John was wearing a suit and
it was an extremely hot day, I do not understand why he would not walk on the sunny side of the
street. Lastly, John choosing to not speak with anyone at the bar leaves me to think he is just not
very friendly. Since John seems more comfortable alone than that in social settings, I feel he might
have difficulty finding success in the business world. I assume he would find it beneficial to work
on his people skills. Reversing the Order In reversing the two situations about John, my opinion of

We all have been in a situation where we meet new people for the first time. Either enrolling in a
new school, interviewing for a job, or just simply going to a party and meeting new people who
happen to be at the party as well; our lives are filled with first encounters and we develop
impressions about those people we encounter. To simplify the understanding a first impression is

Since John holds himself with large amounts of confidence and looks others in their eye, John is
more than likely to attract good feelings from people. With the initial meeting resulting in a
positive impression he has already set a good base for the remainder of the interaction. I feel that
extrovert John is a good standard for people imitate to present a good impression. Since his first
impression is mostly his physical appearance he does not have to worry about what people
initially think about him. In the second scenario, John is portrayed as an introvert, "a shy person;
a quiet person who does not find it easy to talk to other people" (Introvert,2012), or a person that
is the exact opposite of an extrovert. This is not a negative quality; it is just portrayed as a
negative in terms of first impressions. John in this scenario is reserved and prefers not to hold
conversations with people. He even seems to go out of his way to avoid people, even the woman
he had met the night before. Others may view Introvert John as a closed person, and in some
ways not a very nice individual person. The first impression many will receive is that John is a
loner or a person that is very rude. This is unfortunate for people like John because people will
have negative feeling about him and he has not even said a word. Think about John in an interview
