Personal Philosophy of Nursing Belief is the reflection of values that guides one to plan and set
goals in their personal and professional Life. With this in mind, and that caring is the essence of
nursing practice, my career path goals were outlined and focused on concept of education , health
and care. My perspectives and beliefs about nursing as a profession have been gradually developed
throughout the years by the influence of many, mentorship, education and by long years of clinical

Each hospital accepts fifteen qualified employees per semester and the program consists of three
teaching classes at master level. Planning my career and setting up goals beyond being a bedside
nurse was not an easy step. It was finalized/ concreted by the influence and support of friends and
my family Critical Analysis Beliefs. My beliefs about nursing were influenced especially by my
husband and by one of my lifetime friends. Both taught me that nursing is a profession that one
never stops learning and learning is the only way to acquire knowledge to improve and excel as a
professional. I also have an enthusiastic mentor that instructs and encourages me to expand my

also, have been greatly influenced by my mother who continuously reminds me to always put myself
in the patient's place before any decision or judgment is done. Through it, she taught me what

Define Nursing I personally define nursing as aiding in the recovery and survival of another person
using the specialized knowledge, ability, and critical thinking skills attained through study and
experience. The word nurse translates in Latin to nourish. This Latin translation reveals that nurses
nourish when a person is in need. Angelo Gonzalo (2011) states, "Nursing is an art through which
the practitioner of nursing gives specialized assistance to persons with disabilities which makes
more than ordinary assistance necessary to meet needs for self–care" (Major Concepts section, para.
1). Nursing requires a diligent and hardy person to be able to assess the situation, access the
appropriate knowledge and skills, and accordingly provide the care a person needs. Regrettably, the
existence of nursing depends on the medical inadequacy of others. Unfortunately, nursing exists
because people get hurt, cannot care for themselves, or need assistance with daily activities. Carol

Beliefs and Values Patients have needs unrelated to their illness or injury. Having spent my entire
career in pediatrics, often my focus is on developmental needs and what activities can be provided
that support normal development. Some needs, however, seem to be universal. The need for play,
learning, and social contact are not restricted to children. Meeting the emotional and psychosocial
needs of the patient without compromising the physical needs demanded by the illness or injury is
occasionally a delicate balancing act, and is where the art of nursing meets the science of nursing.
By collaborating with our patients and families and respecting their values, a plan can be reached
that both supports their needs and involves them in their own care. From a pediatric perspective,
the family is an integral part of the healthcare team. Parents are the primary ally and resource in
providing individualized care for their child. Even in adult patients, who they are is impacted by the
relationships that they have. Serious or chronic illnesses and injuries affect the entire family. The
family, then, becomes the patient, particularly when it is necessary to make lifestyle changes. I have
been fortunate enough to work in a teaching hospital for over a decade, on a unit that has a strong
