This study aimed to identify factors associated with delayed access to psychiatric care for individuals diagnosed with first episode psychosis in a rural Egyptian setting. The study examined 40 cases of first episode psychosis seen at the psychiatric department of Mansoura General Hospital over a 6 month period. Cultural factors, lack of knowledge about mental health, stigma, and financial factors were found to play a significant role in delayed access to care. The study concluded that public education and anti-stigma programs are needed to promote early intervention for psychosis. Integration between primary and secondary care is also essential.
