• Oracle Hyperion Financial Management, Fusion Edition, Release
11.1.2.1 was released in early April 2011 and represents the most
current release.
• All major releases are synchronized, so that the ‘supporting’
products (e.g. Smart View, Financial Reporting, FDM, etc) are also
on Release 11.1.2.1.
• Any service fixes between releases will not be synchronized. For
example, you could see an HFM 11.1.2.1.001 service fix without a
corresponding Smart View 11.1.2.1.001 service fix. Only major
releases are kept in sync.

• HFM made some new improvements to the ‘look and feel’ or
user interface in 11.1.2 and 11.1.2.1. One of the main goals
of this was to standardize the interface in data grids and data
forms as well as to integrate HFM into the overall user
interface navigation for Fusion 11.
• Some items include the following:
– New color scheme
– New tab style
– Same available options while in data grids or data forms (e.g. you can
promote a process unit in a form).

• Extended Analytics can now export a flat file without the header records (it
can now look like a normal HFM data extract on export). You still have
the option of exporting with the header records, but that is messy to parse
to take to other systems.
• No UDL file is needed anymore.
• Starting with 11.1.2, you can use the HFM Copy App utility with classic or
EPMA enabled applications. Prior to 11.1.2 it was not supported for
EPMA enabled applications.
• Starting with 11.1.2 OBI EE 11G can report on HFM data. This includes
dashboard / scorecard reporting using the OBI (Oracle Business
Intelligence) products.
• Fixes for defects were significant: approximately 97 in total are listed in
the 11.1.2.1 release notes.

The Finit Solutions SeriesThe Finit Solutions Series
Getting the Most out of EPM: HFM & FDM 11.1.2.1 New Features
• 11.1.2.1 introduces supported migration tool support (11.1.2
was for ‘new’ releases only).
• This applies to the HFM schema conversion utility, which can
convert your HFM relational DB to the most current version.
Once the conversion is complete it will be a mirror of the
exact state it was in the previous version.
• The application rebuild approach is still an option for clients in
11.1.2.1. It was the only option in 11.1.2. This approach
involves creating a new application and extracting / importing
application items / data.
HFM Migration Utilities

The Finit Solutions SeriesThe Finit Solutions Series
Getting the Most out of EPM: HFM & FDM 11.1.2.1 New Features
• While 11.1.2.1 does introduce the supported migration tool,
there are some key items to be aware of.
• Oracle introduced a policy of supporting migrations (and
sometimes compatibility) from the latest release on each
version.
• As a result, 11.1.2.1 offers migration tool support for the
following releases only: 11.1.1.3, 9.3.3 and 9.2.1.
• If you are not on the latest release, you will need to patch in
an interim step to perform the migration (i.e. patch 9.3.1 to
9.3.3. to then use the utility to go to 11.1.2.1).
Migration Key Items

Ͳ 29 Ͳ
The Finit Solutions SeriesThe Finit Solutions Series
Getting the Most out of EPM: HFM & FDM 11.1.2.1 New Features
• You have the ability to install 11.1.2.1 on top of 11.1.2.
• During the installation, you select ‘Apply Maintenance
Release’ versus a ‘New installation’.
• You have to do this for all products (i.e. you can’t just do it for
HFM but not FDM).
• You do not need to run the schema migration utility when
doing this.
• From an HFM application standpoint, going from 11.1.2 to
11.1.2.1 is similar to 9.3.1 to 9.3.3 where app conversion is
not required.

Case Study #1 (Company is on a later version – 11.1.1.3)
• Option #1 – App Rebuild Approach
– Pros: Ability to remove any clutter and fully test rules against data as
consolidation is needed. No IT DBA required.
– Cons: This approach will be slower and will require more work. No
logs or status are available with this option.
• Option #2 – Schema Migration utility
– Pros: No interim step is needed, thus, this version can be directly
migrated to 11.1.2.1. Will produce a mirrored copy of the
application(s). Logs and status are included.
– Cons: Small risk in not discovering rules differences between
versions. Does require some IT help.

Case Study #2 (Company is not on a later version – 9.3.1)
• Option #1 – App Rebuild Approach
– Pros: All pros of case study #1 with the addition of no need for an
interim step. Can extract and convert app items quickly.
– Cons: May still require more work, but it depends on the amount of
data, forms, grids, etc. No logs / status.
• Option #2 – Schema Migration utility
– Pros: Will produce a mirrored copy (including logs / status).
– Cons: Requires interim step to 9.3.3 to run the migration utility. Some
laptop / server needs to be patched from 9.3.1 to 9.3.3 so HFM can be
updated to that version and then taken to 11.1.2.1. More IT work with
this option.

• Disclosure Management was released as a new module in
the 11.1.2 release. It exists as a toolbar in Office. It focuses
on document creation, particularly XBRL for SEC external
reporting. The goal is to bring XBRL and other report
document package creation in-house.
• Some key new features added in 11.1.2.1 include:
– Improved document properties are available (decimal separators,
prefixes, etc).
– Ability to scale numbers in the XBRL taxonomy mapping.
– Can generate documents in iXBRL (in-line XBRL) format. iXBRL is
currently a format submission requirement for UK tax returns.

• Enhanced usability and navigation are key development concentrations
for the product team.
• HFM is expected to be released with a brand new user interface within
the next couple of releases.
• Similar to the 11.1.2 release of Hyperion Planning, it is expected to
include a few key components:
– User Interface will incorporate Oracle’s ADF standard. This is the same
standard that Hyperion Planning and Financial Close Management use in
11.1.2. From a user perspective, it will lead to increased filtering and
navigation.
– Continued enhancements and merging of data grids / data forms with
improved printing. Similar to Hyperion Enterprise Reporting Schedules (data
entry and printing ability).
– Improved navigation in the Journals module.

• In addition to the enhanced usability components, HFM is
expected to enhance core product functionality:
– Expandable dimensionality: HFM is expected to have the ability to
move away from the standard 4 custom dimensions to expand, as
necessary, to additional dimensions.
– Enhanced cell text to take on some line item detail type functionality.
– Continued improvement with Journal integration into other systems.
– Enhanced ‘Classic’ metadata features including moving HFM ‘Classic’
administration to the web and including filtering and search.
• Other items (product TBD)
– Unstructured information / schedules
– Account Reconciliation

• Oracle is investing significantly in improved and enhanced
reporting solutions out of HFM. Some expected reporting
features expected in future releases include:
– Tighter OBI EE Integration – OBI EE is the strategic product for Oracle
related to dashboard and scorecard reporting (Financial Reporting is
still strategic for financial reporting).
– Continued tighter integration with Office
• The new functionality related to HFM Task Lists in Office is very promising
and continued accessibility to tasks and status both in the browser views
and in Office products is expected.
• Some key Disclosure Management items will be valuable to
HFM users:
– Cross-Footing and Smart Rounding
– Document collaboration and approval workflow

For example, you could see an HFM 11.1.2.1.001 service fix without a corresponding Smart View 11.1.2.1.001 service fix. Only major releases are kept in sync. Fusion Edition, Release 11.1.2.1

One of the main goals of this was to standardize the interface in data grids and data forms as well as to integrate HFM into the overall user interface navigation for Fusion 11. • Some items include the following: – New color scheme – New tab style – Same available options while in data grids or data forms (e.g. you can promote a process unit in a form). You still have the option of exporting with the header records, but that is messy to parse to take to other systems. • No UDL file is needed anymore. • Starting with 11.1.2, you can use the HFM Copy App utility with classic or EPMA enabled applications. Prior to 11.1.2 it was not supported for EPMA enabled applications. • Starting with 11.1.2 OBI EE 11G can report on HFM data. This includes dashboard / scorecard reporting using the OBI (Oracle Business Intelligence) products. • Fixes for defects were significant: approximately 97 in total are listed in the 11.1.2.1 release notes. • 27. www.finitsolutions.com Ͳ 27 Ͳ The Finit Solutions SeriesThe Finit Solutions Series Getting the Most out of EPM: HFM & FDM 11.1.2.1 New Features • 11.1.2.1 introduces supported migration tool support (11.1.2 was for ‘new’ releases only). • This applies to the HFM schema conversion utility, which can convert your HFM relational DB to the most current version. Once the conversion is complete it will be a mirror of the exact state it was in the previous version. • The application rebuild approach is still an option for clients in 11.1.2.1. It was the only option in 11.1.2. This approach involves creating a new application and extracting / importing application items / data. HFM Migration Utilities
  • 28. www.finitsolutions.com Ͳ 28 Ͳ The Finit Solutions SeriesThe Finit Solutions Series Getting the Most out of EPM: HFM & FDM 11.1.2.1 New Features • While 11.1.2.1 does introduce the supported migration tool, there are some key items to be aware of. • Oracle introduced a policy of supporting migrations (and sometimes compatibility) from the latest release on each version. • As a result, 11.1.2.1 offers migration tool support for the following releases only: 11.1.1.3, 9.3.3 and 9.2.1. • If you are not on the latest release, you will need to patch in an interim step to perform the migration (i.e. patch 9.3.1 to 9.3.3. to then use the utility to go to 11.1.2.1). Migration Key Items
  • 29. www.finitsolutions.com Ͳ 29 Ͳ The Finit Solutions SeriesThe Finit Solutions Series Getting the Most out of EPM: HFM & FDM 11.1.2.1 New Features • You have the ability to install 11.1.2.1 on top of 11.1.2. • During the installation, you select ‘Apply Maintenance Release’ versus a ‘New installation’. • You have to do this for all products (i.e. you can’t just do it for HFM but not FDM). • You do not need to run the schema migration utility when doing this. • From an HFM application standpoint, going from 11.1.2 to 11.1.2.1 is similar to 9.3.1 to 9.3.3 where app conversion is not required. 11.1.2 to 11.1.2.1
  • 30. www.finitsolutions.com Ͳ 30 Ͳ The Finit Solutions SeriesThe Finit Solutions Series Getting the Most out of EPM: HFM & FDM 11.1.2.1 New Features Case Study #1 (Company is on a later version – 11.1.1.3) • Option #1 – App Rebuild Approach – Pros: Ability to remove any clutter and fully test rules against data as consolidation is needed. No IT DBA required. – Cons: This approach will be slower and will require more work. No logs or status are available with this option. • Option #2 – Schema Migration utility – Pros: No interim step is needed, thus, this version can be directly migrated to 11.1.2.1. Will produce a mirrored copy of the application(s). Logs and status are included. – Cons: Small risk in not discovering rules differences between versions. Does require some IT help. Migration Case Study #1
  • 31. www.finitsolutions.com Ͳ 31 Ͳ The Finit Solutions SeriesThe Finit Solutions Series Getting the Most out of EPM: HFM & FDM 11.1.2.1 New Features Case Study #2 (Company is not on a later version – 9.3.1) • Option #1 – App Rebuild Approach – Pros: All pros of case study #1 with the addition of no need for an interim step. Can extract and convert app items quickly. – Cons: May still require more work, but it depends on the amount of data, forms, grids, etc. No logs / status. • Option #2 – Schema Migration utility – Pros: Will produce a mirrored copy (including logs / status). – Cons: Requires interim step to 9.3.3 to run the migration utility. Some laptop / server needs to be patched from 9.3.1 to 9.3.3 so HFM can be updated to that version and then taken to 11.1.2.1. More IT work with this option. Migration Case Study #2
