Invest in Your Future and learn all about Dual College Credit Program
Offered by Houston Community College (HCC)
Did you know you can earn college credits while attending high school?
Houston, TX – Hastings High School, HCC college counselors will be on site to talk
about the cost saving benefits of the Dual Credit Program offered by HCC. With only the
expense of textbooks, you can earn high school and college credit and can complete 1 to 2
semesters of college by the time you graduate high school.
Attending college is expensive but HCC is making it easier to make college a
reality. According to Board Member “The cost of college can deter many students from
completing a college degree, but by removing obstacles, we help students achieve success.” HCC
has waived tuition and fees for students enrolled in its Dual Credit Program. With only the cost
of textbooks, a student can be on their way to earning a college degree.
In order to qualify, you must have (1) a qualifying score on a Texas Success Initiative
Assessment such as the ACT or SAT, (2) meet school district or high school requirements, and
(3) be enrolled in 9th grade or higher.
Many dual credit courses can be transferred to in and out of state universities. HCC
partnered with school districts across the area: Houston, Spring Branch, Katy, Alief and Fort
Bend to keep up with the every changing demand of the area economy.
In 2015, the Texas lawmakers passed the Dual Credit Bill making it easier for students to
get credit-school district to partner with any community college. Since its’ inception, HCC has
enrolled over 1,200 student in the Dual Credit Program.
