Nature and Growth Pattern of a
Child Learner
A child is a human being who has needs. A
wise creative and concerned mentor must
have a way to understand the following
basic individual growth patterns to assist
the child in his social and emotional
maturity.
1. Children are similar in some
aspects but they too differ in
certain phases
Freud believed in ;
• Phallic stage (3-6 years of age)
attitude toward people begins
to take place.
• Latent stage (6-11 years of age),
as the child becomes
preoccupied with developing
skills, hr enjoys same sex
friendship.
2. Environment – it plays vital role
in the child’s proper development
Function of Guidance
• To Meet the development tasks
• to Help understand and sustain social relationship
• To Discover individual aptitudes/skills.
• To Develop critical thinking, appreciation of
worthwhile activities, sound and desirable mental
abilities as well as a sense of responsibility and
service among students.
Role of the teacher
Adam states that: A teacher affects eternity;
nobody can tell where his influence stops.
When he discovers their strengths and their
weaknesses, he can utilize both to assist them
