We completed filming for our project over 3-4 hours across 3 locations. Pictures show the production process, including improvising a high angle shot of a bed using a handheld camera on a tripod as professional equipment was not available. Other shots included filming one character turning off an alarm handheld for stability and angle, and leaving the camera recording while another character searched a wardrobe hoping angles were correct. Careful planning of shots and continuity meant production encountered no errors.

Additional effects like zoom and handheld were also added to reduce awkwardness between footage and titles and create subtle movement fitting our intended style.

Audience feedback suggested title cards should be on screen for an appropriate length of time based on their content. While the title cards were designed with a gradient between two similar colors, one card using two different colors received negative feedback for being too distinct. To improve it, that card will be used last to give a sense of color progression. Overall, testing audiences felt the effects used on the cards successfully created the desired dirty and unclean style.

Overall, we learned a lot from creating this film segment and became adept at using new technologies, editing to a high standard rather than just an amateur level.

Our group improved significantly in planning, filming, and producing our thriller from our preliminary task to the final product. For the final product, we created detailed storyboards, used various camera shots and lighting techniques, and spent more time planning all aspects of pre-production. This resulted in higher quality filming and editing compared to our preliminary task, where we had limited planning and knowledge of using the equipment.
Peter mepham preliminary task
Our group consisted of Peter, Andy, and Jake. We practiced with cameras by filming around the school. This helped us get used to camera functions like zooming and keeping steady shots. For our preliminary task, we decided to film a short comedy film about homework set in our school, as it would be convenient. We storyboarded and planned our script, considering shot types like match on action and shot reverse shot. Our filming went smoothly and we effectively used these shots. During editing, we compiled the footage and added titles/credits, creating a polished final product.
Preliminary evalutatiom
Ethan Wall reviewed his group's preliminary film task, identifying three main mistakes made: using a faulty camera twice, which required reshoots; violating the 180-degree rule; and using the faulty camera again. They managed group dynamics through fair role assignment and staying calm during disagreements. Equipment like the camera, dolly, and tape were safely handled. While no health and safety issues arose, conditions were limited to the school. They organized human resources through committed student actors and everyday costumes. Camera angles, match cuts, and white balance were used within the one-hour time frame allotted.

The student learned several important lessons from their preliminary task to the full product:
1) They learned to do more detailed research and planning such as creating storyboards and researching characters before filming.
2) Creating an animatic storyboard helped them plan shots, see if the story flowed well, and draw people into the film.
3) Researching titles sequences helped them incorporate titles effectively without drawing attention away from the scene.
4) Conducting audience research helped them understand what elements to include, such as a plot twist, to engage viewers.
Skills Development
The filmmakers initially did not use a tripod as they wanted to capture as much footage as possible in the first few days. However, they later realized most of this handheld footage was shaky and unusable. They learned how to properly set up and adjust the height of the tripod, as well as use the bubble level to ensure the camera was straight. They also discovered loosening the tripod made it easier to smoothly move and pan the camera. While the camera was difficult to learn to use initially, especially with a new model halfway through, seeking help from a technician showed them how to properly connect accessories like microphones. Ig3 evaluation
The student completed an IG3 evaluation for a group project creating a short film. Their group wrote scripts, did pre-production planning like location scouting and storyboards. Filming was difficult due to scheduling issues but they completed the shoot. The editing process went well though some shots lacked continuity due to weather. Through this project, the student learned skills in filmmaking and time management.

1) In their preliminary task, the author did not do enough research and planning before filming. For their final product, they conducted extensive research including storyboards, character research, and audience surveys.

Preliminary task and how it benefitted my final
The preliminary task helped the filmmaker learn important concepts like match on action, the 180 degree rule, and how to use camera and editing equipment. Their first attempt failed due to lack of planning, but they learned from their mistakes. This helped them storyboard and plan better for their opening sequence. The preliminary task also taught them the importance of continuity, improvisation, and teamwork in the filmmaking process.
