3. The BBFC (British Board of Film
Classification) was founded in 1913 and only
had two classifications. U- Universal and A-
Adult. Then in 1932, H- Horror, was added. X
was also added, it was similar to the H
classification but it limited the age so only
people over 16 years old could see the film.
The film classification system we know was
introduced around 1982-85. With the
exception of 12A that exception of12A that
was created in 2002.
4. The BBFC certifies films based on how
appropriate for someone that age. For
example, if an person is 12 years old they are
isolated from watching any film with a higher
classification. However if a film is given a U
rating older people might feel as if the film
is to young for them. The impact on a film
company is that it can decrease or increase a
films profits as the potential audience is
made smaller or bigger.

Restricted meaning that under 17should be
accompanied by an adult and NC17- this
means nobody under 17 years old can see a

based on virtues, Tris learns she's
Divergent and won't fit in. When
she discovers a plot to destroy
Divergents, Tris and Four must find
out what makes Divergents
dangerous before it's too late.
When the film was released in 2014
it was sent to the BBFC who said
the film had a theme of moderate
violence and threat. So therefore
gave it the classification of 12A in
the UK and PG13 in the USA.
