Eye Spy Colonial Walking Tour 
of Annapolis

 Standard 5.0 History 
 INDICATOR 1: Examine differences between past and present time 
 OBJECTIVES 
 Use terms related to time to order events sequentially that have 
occurred in the school 
 Classify events as belonging to past or present 
 INDICATOR 2: Compare people and objects of today and long ago 
 OBJECTIVES 
 Construct meaning from informational text and text features about the 
past 
 Collect and examine photographs of the past and compare with current 
photographs of similar images, such as old photographs of the school 
and community
Rationale 
1. Educational Goals 
 understand the similarities and differences for 
daily life of today and daily life of long ago. 
 Sort and classify events, people, ad objects as 
belonging to the past or the present. 
2. Choosing this site for the field trip will expand the 
students learning on understanding how time 
changes and helps them see it through hands on 
experiences.
Class Description 
 This field trip was created for first grade students at 
Norwood Elementary. 
 It was planned for two classes (approx. 40 students) 
 21 students from Ms.Smith’s class 
 19 students from Mrs.Morgan’s class
Description/Location 
 The Eye Spy Colonial Walking Tour is located in 
Annapolis. 
 It is about 20 minutes from Norwood Elementary 
school. 
 The walking tour allows for the students to compare 
daily life of today and long ago. 
 They are able to be involved in a hands on learning 
experience. 
 Students get to sort and classify events, people, and 
objects as belonging to the past or present.

The Tour Schedule 
 Trip Schedule 
 9:30 Departure 42 minute travel time 
 10:15 Arrival at 1 Dock St. Annapolis, MD 21401 
 The bus will drop off at tour starting point (bus drop off lane) and proceed to 
the predetermined parking location: 
 10:15 Students will be let off the bus and get into their 
 chaperoned tour groups. 
 The teachers will check in, and meet the tour guide from Watermark. 
 Lunches will be dropped off with Operations Staff 
 10:20 Bathroom/Drink Break 
 10:30 Eye Spy Walking Tour- 90min 
 12:00 Tour will end at the Maryland State House/ Bathroom break at public 
restrooms 
 12:30 Walk to Susan Campbell Park at City Dock 
 12:40 Lunch at Park: Gather lunches from barge office 
 1:20 Clean up lunch, bathroom, prepare for departure 
 1:30 Bus pick up at Susan Campbell Park/Departure: 42 minute travel time 
 2:20 Approximate return time to Norwood Elementary School

 8 family chaperones and 2 teacher supervisors 
 Chaperone lottery & forms 
 Clipboard and groups 
 Tour Guides and drivers provided

 Teacher binders: checklist, schedule, group lists, contact info, etc. 
 Lost child, personal injury 
 Group emergencies: fire, accident, bomb threat, etc.

 Each teacher will carry a first aid kit

 Each child will wear a name tag 
 School name, teacher cell number, tour name, group name 
 Chaperones will wear name tags

Bathroom Breaks 
 There will be 3 scheduled bathroom breaks 
 Upon arrival at City Dock facilities 
 At completion of tour at the Maryland State House 
 After lunch at City Dock facilities
Lunch 
 All attendees will bring a packed lunch 
 Lunches will be provided by cafeteria for students unable to bring 
their own (i.e. students on FARMS) 
 Lunches will be stored at barge office upon arrival 
 Lunch will be eaten at Susan Campbell Park at City Dock 
 Benches: No tables- flexibility!
