From semesters abroad and international practicums to J-term academic trips and Spring Break mis-
sions,Taylor has a travel opportunity for every student that’s interested.
Language school,immersive international practicums,mission trips...summer travel opportuni-
ties exist in avarietyof forms.Students can complete their secondyear of language requirements,
study natural history in the Black Hills of South Dakota,or join faculty on a semiannual mission
trip.Several athletic teams take short-term trips before returning to campus for season training.
International studies, public health, business, and English LanguageTeaching students often ful-
fill internship or practicum requirements in international settings over the summer.
More than mission trips, these opportunities are designed to provide a greater understanding of the
culture and people of a place. The experience doesn’t start when you leave for the airport—it starts
weeks or months before with cultural training that involves reading and hearing about the experi-
ences of others. After the trip, teams regroup to talk through their experiences and plan ways to share
with the rest of campus.
J-TERM ACADEMICS
Led byTaylor professors,J-term academic trips take a class to a location where they spend the month of January
learning the subject matter in a tactile, experiential way.Major-specific trips have been led toThailand (computer
science),Guatemala (environmental science),and the Philippines (education).
FOOTSTEPS OF PAUL
Travel through Greece and Italy and study Paul’s letters in places like Thessaloniki,Philippi, and Corinth. You’ll
visit the jail where Paul and Silas sang before the earthquake, climb part of Mount Olympus, studyActs on Mars
Hills in Athens, and end the trip in Rome where Paul spent his last days in captivity. This trip fulfills the Biblical
Literature 2 course requirement.
LITERARY LONDON
Study British Literature in the places the authors lived and gained inspiration. You’ll travel to York,Edinburg,
Stratford-upon-Avon,and other locations while examining the works of authors like Shakespeare,Jane Austen,
and T.S.Eliot.This trip fulfills the literature course requirement.ent.
FRESHMAN HONORS GUILD TRIP
Every J-term,freshman Honors Guild students embark on an international trip with Taylor professors. They
earn academic credit while immersing in another culture and considering questions about art, ideas, and ways
of thinking.Past Honors groups have gone to Ireland,South Africa,Jordan,Israel,China, and Bahamas.

“At first,it was difficult to be submerged in a culture
whereIcouldnotcommunicateverywell.Itwasfrus-
trating because who you are is so tied to your ability
to express yourself. At the same time, it was really
exciting because there are so many new things to
learn about the world. When you are unable to speak,
you can stand back and start to listen and learn.”
ZACK TAYLOR ’16 - MADRID, SPAIN
“InEcuador,youmustgreetandsaygood-
bye to everyone with a kiss on the cheek
. . . and you must greet everyone in the
room,especiallyatfamilyevents.Atfirst,
I felt a little shy about greeting everyone
this way ...but I grew to enjoy it as time
went on. I think, in America, we miss
out on the comfort of physical touch.”
HANNAH BOY ’17 - CUENCA, ECUADOR
“Our first Sunday at a church in Rwanda was
quite the adventure. We got stuck in the mud
on the way there and walked up to the church
at the base of a volcano. Just after we sat, a
little boy of maybe three ran through the door
and straight into my arms. . . The purity of
love and humility and childlikeness was heart-
breaking. It’s been a life-changing experience.”
WESLEY MORGAN ’16 - UGANDA & RWANDA
“My team and I worked alongside the
staff at Project Mercy . . . in schools,
supporting teachers, tutoring, and
working in a reading program for stu-
dents. I learned how small I am in the
big world God created.”
MARY LISTON ’15 - YETEBON, ETHIOPIA
With more than 20 approved programs for semester abroad, students can choose from every populated conti-
nent on the globe.Study locations—available through the CCCU’s Best Semester program and other special
Taylor partnerships—include Australia, Lithuania, Spain, Jerusalem, Uganda, China, and major-specific
domestic opportunities in Los Angeles (film) and Nashville (music).

ECUADOR
Partnering with Verbo Church in the capital,Cuenca,Taylor’s Ecuador program enables pre-medicine (biology or
chemistry),public health,or exercise science majors to develop intercultural and language skills while gaining
hands-on experience in Verbo’s medical clinic. Don’t worry—students don’t perform surgery, but they observe
medical procedures up close and exercise science students can help with physical therapy. The Ecuador program
offers other opportunities to students majoring in social work, business, and elementary education.Students stay
with host families connected to Verbo and take excursions to the Equator and the Galapagos Island.
IRELAND
Incoming freshmen can spend their first semester asTaylor students in Greystones,Ireland.Students are housed
together in Coolnagreina YWCA center. Courses on Irish history, contemporary Ireland, Christian liberal arts,
and biblical literature are taught by a combination ofTaylor faculty and Irish professors. In addition to classroom
work, students learn how to navigate the country, visit well-known sites like the Cliffs of Moher, and build rela-
tionships with locals. The spring semester program is available to upperclassmen.Learn more: taylor.edu/fisp

sional experience and start networking before they graduate.Students take a class taught by industry profession-
als, while working one or more internships and experiencing for themselves what it’s like to live and work in LA.
