14. Sinulog means “like water current
movement” which depicts the
forward-backward step of Sinulog
Dance. The dance moves to the
beat of the drums and this
resembles the current of a river in
Cebu. Thus, calling it the Sinulog

15. This was one of the most important
events in the religious history of the
Philippines as it paved the way to the birth
of Christianity in the country.
At the moment of receiving the holy image,
it was said that Queen Juana, the main consort of
Rajah Humabon, danced with joy holding this
image of the child Jesus. The other natives
followed her example, and this event was regarded
as the first Sinulog dance. The same event used as
the basis for most Sinulog dances. 15
16. Sinulog Festival is held every third
Sunday of January.
For 2021, it falls on the 17th of
January. However, the 2021 Sinulog
Festival physical and virtual
celebrations are postponed because of
the COVID-19 pandemic.

18. They celebrated with dancing and music,
with the Borneans having painted their
bodies with soot to show their gratefulness
and camaraderie with the Aeta who had

different meaning by the church by
celebrating the acceptance of Christianity, as
symbolized by carrying an image of the Holy
Child or Infant Jesus during the procession. 18

19
20. On the fourth Sunday of
January, Iloilo City takes the
reigns with its own gathering to
honor Santo Niño. Despite the
busy festive season, most locals
and tourists would agree that
this is the best time to
experience this Panay island
metropolis. 20
21. Dinagyang literally means
“merrymaking” in the local dialect, but
around the country, it is (unofficially)
hailed as the queen of Philippine
festivals. The weekend is divided into
three parts: Friday’s Fluvial Procession,
Saturday’s Kasadyahan Cultural
Competition and Sunday’s Ati Tribe
Competition. 21
22. is held to celebrate the Patron
Saint, St James the Greater. At the
core of the festival is the
reenactment of the Spanish-
Moorish wars, the Battle of
Clavijo, previously known as the
Battle of Covadonga in 722 AD.
22
24. is celebrated in the city of
Dagupan City, which is known for
its delicious bangus (milkfish)
products. The dances are held for
the purpose of showing bountiful
harvests of Bangus. A few years ago
about 10,000 fish were cooked on
1000 grilss placed along Fernandez
