This document discusses the underrepresentation and challenges faced by women in sports media. It covers several relevant theories including social identity theory, symbolic annihilation, and male hegemony. The history of women in sports media is explored, beginning with being allowed in locker rooms in 1978. Social identity theory holds that women are seen as an out-group in the male-dominated field of sports broadcasting. Symbolic annihilation refers to the underrepresentation and misrepresentation of women in sports media. Male hegemony and harassment, such as the case of Ines Sainz, also present ongoing challenges for women. The glass ceiling effect and women's struggles over time in the industry are also examined.
