This document discusses research on female sports coaches. It begins by introducing the author as a former female field hockey player and coach in the UK who wanted to explore what happened to female coaches in premier hockey leagues. The document then outlines three types of knowledge that effective coaches possess: professional knowledge about sports and coaching principles; interpersonal knowledge about building relationships with athletes; and intrapersonal knowledge including self-reflection and ethics. It concludes by discussing some potential pros and cons of female coaches, such as their tendency towards athlete-centered coaching styles suited to female behaviors.
