Air Canada Rouge is a low-cost subsidiary of Air Canada founded in December 2012 and began operations on July 1, 2013. It operates an fleet of Airbus A319, A321, and Boeing 767 aircraft on domestic and international routes. As an airline carrying over 6 aircraft with over 20 passenger seats and weighing over 100,000 lbs that conducts complex operations, Air Canada Rouge falls under Transport Canada's Type A classification for operational control systems. Air Canada Rouge selected Rockwell Collins' ARINC to provide its GLOBALink air/ground communications services globally.

Operational Control’s Website Type A classification shall
apply to air operators carrying passengers in Airline
Operations using more than 6 aeroplanes:
(a) Having a passenger-seating configuration of 20 or more;
(b) having a maximum gross take-off weight of 45,455 kg
(100,000 lbs.) or more; and
(c) Operating under complex operation
Considering all above and numbers of fleet, numbers of
passenger-seating, gross weight, numbers of flights, and
operating mixed domestic and international Air Canada
Rouge Airline is under Type A Operational Control Syestem.
