Fasting is recommended in times of special need, such as when studying the Bible, surrendering fully to God, or overcoming in the end times. It should be accompanied by prayer, confession of sin, and humility. Extraordinary fasts were practiced by biblical figures like Jesus, Moses, and Elijah. National fasts occurred in Israel and Nineveh. Fasting was misused by hypocrites but can be beneficial when done with the right spirit and for the right reasons, such as resolving issues in the church or transitioning to a vegetarian diet. Outward fasting without a humble spirit is of no value to God.
